Florida Democrats Pick The DSA Candidate For Senate

It seems that the Democrats in Florida decided it would be easier to just get the Senate race over quickly. However, no one informed their new candidate.

In a pretty remarkable upset, Alex Vindman (yes, THAT Alex Vindman) lost to Angie Nixon. Vindman had moved to Florida in 2023 (his twin brother is in Congress as a representative from Virginia) and had raised a lot of money for his campaign. He was then embarrassingly defeated by Angie Nixon, the very socialist candidate. While President Trump had a moment of gloating over Vindman’s loss, and Vindman himself meekly got in line and gave Nixon his endorsement, it seems no one told Angie Nixon that the race has now moved from “leans Republican” to “safe Republican” with her on the ballot. With endorsements like these, it’s no surprise why red-state Florida won’t be voting for her.

Nixon, 42, has been a member of the Florida House of Representatives since 2020, representing parts of her hometown of Jacksonville.

Ahead of the primary, Nixon received endorsements from “Squad” Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.). Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.).

Nixon was also backed by pro-Palestinian children’s YouTuber Ms. Rachel and anti-Israel ex-Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.).

Like other far-left candidates in primaries around the country, Nixon has vowed to push for “Medicare for all,” abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and end US aid to Israel if elected.

But never let it be said that Angie Nixon is not confident. She is claiming that she will “whoop” Ashley Moody in the general election.

The moment came shortly after the state lawmaker scored an upset victory in Florida’s Democratic primary. Nixon will now face off against President Donald Trump’s preferred candidate, Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL), in Florida’s special election in November to see who finishes Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s Congressional term.

Nixon vented that she was disgusted by Moody because the Republican “doesn’t care about anyone but herself,” saying that’s why Moody voted against extending Affordable Care Act subsidies; Nixon claimed Moody’s vote led to 300,000 people getting hosed.

“So I look forward, Ashley Moody, to taking you on and to whooping you in November,” Nixon fumed. “And you will be calling me your senator!”

Um, yeah. About that…

According to Decision Desk, Ashley Moody got over 1.3 million votes on her own. Nixon and Vindman combined have 1.25 million. Now, this doesn’t mean that Ashley Moody won’t need to do any campaigning, but when the Democrat nominee for GOVERNOR doesn’t want anything to do with Angie Nixon, that’s saying a lot about the current political reality in Florida.

Speaking of current political realities in Florida, there were some satisfying results from the primary. Debbie Wasserman Schultz won her primary. That’s not the satisfying part. The part where Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, the currently indicted former congresswoman who didn’t know when to quit, lost her bid to get back into the congressional seat she resigned from before she could be expelled is the satisfying part. Also satisfying? Ethically challenged Representative Cory Mills lost his primary. Naturally, now that he has lost, President Trump has flipped and recinded his endorsement.

Florida isn’t perfect, but it has become a solidly red state over the last eight years (everyone thank Ron DeSantis for that), and there is almost no scenario where Angie Nixon is elected to statewide office. As indicated by Democrat gubernatorial candidate David Jolly, it doesn’t look like other Florida Democrats are going to be rushing to embrace her – and she has a real chance of dragging the ticket down.
