A report is out from ESPN that the Cleveland Browns would like to talk to a certain former Secretary of State about the head coaching job. Believe it or not, Condoleezza Rice may be under consideration for the job.
Browns general manager John Dorsey said last week that he was open to hiring a woman as Cleveland’s next head coach, and one prominent name is on the team’s wish list to interview.
The Browns would like to interview former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice for the job, a league source told ESPN.
If the Browns follow through on it, Rice would become the first woman to interview for an NFL head-coaching job.
Now, the Browns have officially said “hey, wait a minute”…
After word of the Browns’ possible interest in Rice got back to the team, Dorsey issued a statement.
“Our coaching search will be thorough and deliberate, but we are still in the process of composing the list of candidates and Secretary Rice has not been discussed,” he said.
And Condi herself has said that she’s probably not ready to be a head coach… yet…
Now, if the Browns did decide to ask Condoleezza Rice to be the next head coach, it would be considered the biggest stunt casting of all time. But can you imagine the ratings? For a sport that has suffered from more than a few self-inflicted wounds over the last few seasons, bringing in a woman head coach with as much gravitas as Condoleezza Rice would absolutely turn the NFL upside down.
And it could use a major shakeup, honestly. Roger Goodell has been an example of massive leadership fail. Honestly, Condi should get HIS job.
But she does love her Cleveland Browns.
So, why not Condoleezza Rice? It’s not like the Browns can get any worse, right? Maybe it’s time to take a big risk, despite the denials. If Condi wants the job, I say let her have at it.
