Butker Speech: The Normies Are Winning The Day

It’s a point that should be getting made again and again, as the left continues to absolutely melt down over the commencement speech that Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker gave last weekend.

Harrison Butker, in the speech that the loudest complainers have not listened to or watched, praised his wife and credited her for all of his successes. The NFL, who has an admitted problem with players committing domestic violence to the point that they have had to try and REFORM their own rules, distanced themselves from Butker’s speech. Real classy, there – and something that got promptly mocked by the Babylon Bee, who posted the headline “‘Harrison Butker Does Not Reflect Our Values,’ Says League Of Woman Beaters.”

If you are among the few who has not watched the commencement speech – which was given by a Catholic, at a Catholic college, to a room of adults – then here it is:

And it really does need to be watched in its entirety. Or you will end up relying on other people’s not-quite-honest interpretations of his speech. For example, The Hill, which got slapped down with an epic Community Note.

The article doesn’t even make the claim that he used that quote, but how many people were simply scrolling through their Twitter/X news feed and saw this, without bothering to click through and read the article? How many people now assume that this is what Butker said, because they saw this tweet before the Community Note went up?

Or people who don’t watch it will hear that the Benedictine nuns are “disavowing” the speech, because Salon went and asked them for an official comment. You really think the nuns were hot and bothered about this speech? They may have co-founded the college, but are they still involved in its day-to-day administration? Or did Salon just go trolling?

The religious sisterhood order that co-founded Benedictine College, the small academic institution in Atchinson, Kansas, has disavowed the 2024 commencement speech by Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker, which has been widely panned as misogynistic and homophobic.

The Sisters of Mt. Scholastica issued a statement declaring their shared sentiment that Butker’s speech does not “represent the Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts college that our founders envisioned and in which we have been so invested.

“Instead of promoting unity in our church, our nation, and the world, his comments seem to have fostered division,” the statement continued. “One of our concerns was the assertion that being a homemaker is the highest calling for a woman. We sisters have dedicated our lives to God and God’s people, including the many women whom we have taught and influenced during the past 160 years. These women have made a tremendous difference in the world in their roles as wives and mothers and through their God-given gifts in leadership, scholarship, and their careers.

“Our community has taught young women and men not just how to be ‘homemakers’ in a limited sense, but rather how to make a Gospel-centered, compassionate home within themselves where they can welcome others as Christ, empowering them to be the best versions of themselves,” the sisterhood added. “We reject a narrow definition of what it means to be Catholic. We are faithful members of the Catholic Church who embrace and promote the values of the Gospel, St. Benedict, and Vatican II and the teachings of Pope Francis.”

They concluded, “We want to be known as an inclusive, welcoming community, embracing Benedictine values that have endured for more than 1,500 years and have spread through every continent and nation. We believe those values are the core of Benedictine College.”

Some of the debate on Butker’s speech contains some bickering between Catholics about some of what the nuns above mention. Which is fine, let the Catholics have that debate amongst themselves (I am not Catholic, so I have no dog in the fight). The problem is that the leftist media, which is fueling this meltdown, is attempting to drag the Catholic debate into the spotlight and portraying it as “THERE IS A SPLIT AMONG THE CATHOLICS BECAUSE OF HARRISON BUTKER!!1!!ELEVENTY!”

The reality? A semi-famous NFL kicker (he is on the team that just won the Super Bowl, after all), who is Catholic, expressed some rather uncontroversial cultural values, and the left freaked out. And while there was an attempt to dox Butker by the official city of Kansas City Twitter/X account (which the Missouri Attorney General is now investigating) and an attempt to dox his mother (some people need to get a life or get sued), the “normies” across the country were rising up and showing their support for Harrison Butker.

In fact, the sales were so strong that Butker’s jersey is now sold out. In WOMEN’S sizes. A quick check at the NFL online shop also shows that, as of the writing of this post, women are currently selling out the “personalized” shirt options. I wonder how many of those shirts will end up with Butker’s name and number?

The real signal that the left has lost its mind comes from two places in the Hollywood media. First, believe it or not, Whoopi Goldberg. While her co-hosts on “The View” flipped their lids, she actually had a moderated take on Butker.

“I like when people say what they need to say. He’s at a Catholic college, he’s a staunch Catholic. These are his beliefs and he’s welcome to them,” Goldberg said on Thursday’s episode of “The View.”

“I don’t have to believe them, I don’t have to accept them, the ladies that were sitting in that audience don’t have to accept them,” she added.

“The same way we want respect when Colin Kaepernick takes a knee, we want to give respect to people whose ideas are different from ours because the man who says he wants to be president, You-Know-Who, he says the way to act is to take away people’s right to say how they feel. We don’t want to be that, we don’t want to be those people.”

The other person pointing out that the left has lost it over Harrison Butker? Bill Maher. This shouldn’t be a surprise, as Maher has been staking out a much more “classical” liberal place for himself while the left keeps moving further left. He knows his audience is more “normies” than fringe leftists. And he points out the obvious as only he can to the left.

On Friday, on his “Real Time” show, Bill Maher came to the defense of the truth and Butker, bringing a little reality into what he actually said versus what the media was alleging. They’re treating Butker like “history’s greatest monster,” Maher said.

‘Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world.’ Ok, that seems fairly, like, modern. ‘But I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.’ I don’t see what the big crime is. I really don’t.”

“And I think this is part of the problem people have with the left is that lots of people in this country are like this. Like he’s saying some of you may go on to lead successful careers, but a lot of you are excited about this other way that people- everybody used to be. And now can’t that be a choice too?” Maher continued.

“And I feel like they feel very put upon, like there’s only one way to be a good person and that’s to get an advanced degree from one of those a– h–e factories like Harvard.”

He also made another great point about some of the people on the left at those “factories” noting that some of those people are “demonstrating for Hamas.” And with Hamas. “It’s not just an opinion in Hamas, that you stay home and have the babies. They will enforce you [do] that!”

Ah yes, those enlightened leftist Hamas LARPers who willingly cover their heads and bow down, who are wailing over Harrison Butker’s comments but will happily cosplay as Hamas Handmaids.

Harrison Butker is going to be just fine. He’s made himself a whole lot of new fans who have proved their support for him by buying his jersey. Despite the crazy people attempting to dox him or sign a Change.org petition to remove him from his team (because NFL teams TOTALLY listen to petitions when it comes to the team roster), he will be fine. Even if he left the NFL tomorrow, he would be fine – because he has a home, a family, and a LIFE beyond his job. I’m not certain those screaming and wailing on the left can say the same thing.

If he had said anything in the commencement speech that went against his beliefs, the screeching class would have bashed him for hypocrisy. Never mind that they don’t believe in God themselves.

These are people who absolutely hate Christianity because they are children who don’t like rules. And if he’d been muslim and saying it, they’d keep their hateholes shut because they’d be scared of being targeted by the peaceful alluh akbar types.
