Minnesota Senator, Al Franken, has spent over a week in seclusion at his daughter’s home in Washington, D.C. where he says he has spent time “reflecting on his behavior” and his plans once he returns to the Senate. Yes, he is returning to the Senate. Today. He is not resigning. But he is “ashamed and embarrassed”.

“I’ve let a lot of people down. I’m hoping I can make it up to them and gradually regain their trust.”

Al Franken insists he will hold onto his seat. Holding onto seats would appear
to be his specialty.

Hmmm… remember the time circa 1995 when Franken (then a writer for SNL) joked about drugging and raping journalist Leslie Stahl in The New Yorker?

And who remembers that time in a 2000 Playboy article, you know the one…where Franken talked about fantasizing a machine would perform oral sex on him? Such a charming guy!

Was he sorry then?

The question we beg to ask is…is Franken really even apologizing now? He claims that he does not remember the rehearsal for the USO skit in which he groped Leann Tweeden in 2006. He didn’t “remember the rehearsal for the skit in the same way” and the photograph was “intended to be funny but wasn’t.” “I’m embarrassed, I’m sorry but…but…but I really didn’t remember the rehearsal rolling out that way”, really is just as bad as not apologizing at all. Today, Franken is sorry. He is embarrassed, ashamed even. Not ashamed enough to not show up for work. Nope. He’s dragging himself to work with his tail between his legs after a half-hearted apology. The laws of physics? The rules of campaigning? Selling out who you had been your entire life?! Really, Senator Franken? The only remorse Franken feels is the remorse that he got caught and he’s “doing his job” with the obligatory blanket apology. Take note: when someone tells you “who they have been their entire life”, believe them.
