Well, the Democrats essentially caved. There won’t be a second Schumer shutdown. Everything except money for ICE/DHS will be funded through September of this year.
As part of the deal, senators will seek to pass the broader, non-DHS government funding package Thursday to avoid a shutdown at the end of the day Friday.
Lawmakers will also pass a stopgap measure to continue current funding for DHS for two weeks, during which time negotiations will continue over Democrats’ demands for changes at the department.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has said he’s willing to let DHS funding lapse in two weeks if the talks don’t result in changes Democrats want.
Those demands include barring federal agents from wearing masks and requiring that they wear body cameras, along with a ban on roving patrols and tighter use of warrants.
Zoom out: Senate Democrats pledged this week to block government funding if the White House did not agree to reforms at DHS after federal agents killed 37-year-old Alex Pretti in Minneapolis on Saturday.
You know what is interesting about this? Funding for more body cameras and additional training is ALREADY in the proposed bill.
But Democrats were blocking the bill because reasons, protestors, and protection of illegal alien criminals.
Speaking of those illegal alien criminals … guess how many have been arrested since the Laken Riley Act was passed? Over 20,000.
One of the heinous criminal migrants nabbed within the first year of the Laken Riley Act includes Cuban national Sergio Luis Hernandez Gonzalez, who was convicted on two dozen charges of larceny, burglary, robbery, distributing cocaine, resisting an officer, vehicle theft, and fraud.
Other criminal migrants — from Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Guatemala, Colombia, Venezuela, Iraq and India — were detained with convictions for child endangerment, aggravated assault with a weapon, selling heroin, rape and homicide, according to DHS officials.

Dominican Republic national Yaser Garcia Ramirez, who was convicted of carjacking, conspiracy to manufacture and distribute heroin, trespassing, and criminal possession of a loaded gun. Ramirez was additionally charged with obstructing law enforcement, domestic violence and assault.
Venezuelan Jorby Joel Escuraina-Suarez, who was convicted of aggravated assault with a weapon.
Guatemalan national Santos Chim-Diego, who was convicted of resisting an officer, aggravated assault on an officer, and driving under the influence of liquor. Chim-Diego was charged with cruelty toward a child, assault, domestic violence, and battery.Hamid Abdulimam Al Nassar, who was convicted of procuring for a minor for prostitution, possession of narcotics equipment, drug possession and larceny. The Iraqi national was also charged with fraud, embezzlement and aggravated assault with a weapon.
These are just a few examples of the criminal illegal aliens that the Democrats and paid protestors are supporting and don’t want ICE to arrest.
Some of the other requirements in the proposed ICE/DHS funding from Schumer et al are common sense solutions. Except… the “solutions” are already in place.
Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-New York) on Wednesday demanded Republicans agree to a set of changes to the DHS bill to earn Democrats’ support: end “roving patrols” by requiring warrants in some cases and requiring ICE to coordinate with state and local law enforcement; create a uniform code of conduct for agents and use independent investigations to enforce it; and require agents to wear body cameras and to not wear masks.
As noted above, body camera funding is already in the bill and many do currently wear them.
Secondly, a uniform code of conduct is already in place.
Third, when requiring ICE to coordinate with state/local agencies, it would ALSO help if the STATE and LOCAL law enforcement agencies would cooperate with ICE!
But as we see in Minnesota, those agencies are NOT coordinating with ICE as they should because Tampon Tim declared the state a sanctuary state and has refused any kind of coordination.
ICE agents can't enforce federal law either when they're busy dodging Molotov cocktails and getting swarmed by the same 'mostly peaceful' mobs you prohibit MPD from arresting for local laws like disorderly conduct, assault, arson, property damage… https://t.co/4m2Exl12i5

Therefore, the current Democrat requirements for this ICE bill are nothing more than toothless pandering.
We’ve reached an agreement to mostly keep funding the Nazi fascist white supremacist tyrants

(They believe nothing of what they say, they just want to stop enforcing immigration law) https://t.co/12oUa797k6
Chuck Schumer waved the white flag and caved. He knew he didn’t have a leg to stand on with his demands. Punting the ball down the road for two weeks concerning ICE funding is nothing more than a futile gesture. Everyone knows that.

Maybe not.
Sen. Graham, showing some backbone, is going to hold it up unless some of the Dem amendments are deleted.
Then it will have to go back to the House for consideration, since the bill will differ from what the House passed.
Rep. Luna, among others, will want to amend it to insert the SAVE Act, which the House passed but is languishing in the Senate. Since the Dems hate the idea of making voters show ID, that would result in another delay.
So, it looks like there will be another shutdown.
