The Atlantic has recently come out with some doozies and this comparison of Charlie Kirk with George Floyd is no exception.
In reality, saying the two names in the same sentence is utter absurdity. But, The Atlantic did it. They went there. Their claim? Charlie Kirk is MAGA’s George Floyd.
In the feverish weeks since Charlie Kirk’s assassination, the MAGA right is undergoing its own religious ferment, animated by a new martyr. Just as the left used Floyd’s death to justify and hasten all manner of political ends, the right is invoking Kirk’s name to advance illiberal aims and silence opponents.”-Thomas Chatteron Williams, The Atlantic
Oh, boy.
Once again, Americans are being asked to genuflect before an idol.”-Thomas Chatteron Williams, The Atlantic
Williams wrote a book on The Summer of Love surrounding the George Floyd riots of 2020. In it, he discusses in depth, the doublespeak around the COVID lockdowns, “people were shamed for being in the street and, after the death of George Floyd, were shamed for not being in the street”. Then, there’s the usual liberal gobbledegook peppered in:
There is no doubt that the initial animating spirit of Black Lives Matter, #MeToo, and the thousands of social justice protests since 2020 forced a necessary national (re)consideration of long overdue demands for police reform in particular, as well as broader calls for greater equality and inclusion — and, perhaps above all, the wholehearted extension of dignity and recognition, which sit higher atop Maslow’s pyramid of needs than strict physical safety.”-Thomas Chatteron Williams, The Atlantic

Dignity and recognition, eh? Why, yes, Charlie Kirk is just like George Floyd, Tommy. Such as valid comparison you made there.
According to this guy, MAGA has been searching for a martyr. We’ve been praying for one. That martyr is Charlie Kirk, who is, just like George Floyd (forgive me for using them in the same sentence):
Charlie Kirk didn’t die of an overdose.
He was *assassinated* in broad daylight for what he stood for.To equate his sacrifice with George Floyd is grotesque.
One fought to wake America up.
The other was a tragic pawn of a broken system.Stop trying to rewrite the…

Just as the left used Floyd’s death to justify and hasten all manner of political ends, the right is invoking Kirk’s name to advance illiberal aims and silence opponents.
Note Willams’ comparison of left to right. The left justifies and hastens all manner of political ends. The right invokes names to advance illiberal aims and silence their opponents.
“Hastening” for the left involved burning down cities and destroying property. The left justified name-calling and ugly rhetoric that has only escalated from this point on. Don’t agree with violence and/or burning down and trashing cities in the name of social justice? You’re a bigoted racist. The left hastened and seized the opportunity to infiltrate our schools and indoctrinate our young people with re-written history, stoking these flames of division. They want to come across as these peace-loving pacifists who care for the “greater good”.
In contrast, according to the world of Williams, the right (aka MAGA) invokes illiberal aims. The right wants to silence their opponents. That’s exactly what Charlie Kirk did when he went to college campuses to debate young people, right? (Insert the old facepalm here.)
Charlie Kirk encouraged dialog. He could logically debate students who have been spoon-fed their ideologies into a corner. Charlie Kirk promoted discourse.
That is the dumbest headline I've read in a while. pic.twitter.com/iIxYBKge06

Then, there is the bizarre disconnect that is unspoken here. That hastening of the left to justify all manner of political ends got Charlie Kirk shot. All while Kirk was “desiring” to “silence” his opponents, HE was tragically silenced by a person who did not want to hear an opposing opinion. He wanted that person wiped off the face of this earth.
In becoming a martyr, Kirk has been reduced to slogans and half-truths that obscure the real tragedy of his death. But if Americans are to learn anything valuable from the deceased, both sides will need to find the courage to reject such opportunistic can’t.”-Thomas Chatteron Williams, The Atlantic
Opportunistic cant can be defined as writing such a heinous comparison piece to promote one’s book, couldn’t it?
Dude is a grifter. It's all to promote his book. Don't fall for it. Not even worth giving his b!tch ass any attention. https://t.co/7mq7zbs5RM pic.twitter.com/Zydq1q2G6w

They torch cities. Their leaders and their spouses loved the smell of burning tires. They damage property because of “mean tweets and hurtful words”. They canonize a guy who was a criminal, pointed a gun at a woman and was an addict. They believe in all methods and means of violence to silence the opposition. Their political leaders said so, here, here and here (just to name a few). We talked about what happened. We prayed. We did not riot in the streets or call for the death of our opponents.
We are not the same. Charlie Kirk is NOT MAGA’s “George Floyd”.
Without free speech, there is no such thing as truth. The moment you silence opposing voices, you destroy the foundation of democracy.”-Charlie Kirk
Newark-born, Georgetown grad, Chatteron-Williams can chatter on all he wants from his home in Paris, France about how confused and pathetic we Americans are in our utter despair and desire to have political martyrs. The cold, crisp nights of autumn are upon us. The Atlantic is perfect for the kindling. Anyone have a match?

So does this mean we are justified in rioting, burning down businesses and committing murder? That’s what those people do when one of their idols dies.
Testing to see if I can close the tag up above.
