The NFL combine is the same as an 1800’s slave auction according to multi-millionaire Colin Kaepernick. In his Netflix documentary, that is exactly what he’s claiming.
If you had any questions about where Colin Kaepernick’s activist spirit originated, a look at Netflix’s new limited series, Colin in Black and White, removes all doubt.
These days, Kaepernick is known as the ex-San Francisco 49ers quarterback whose decision to kneel during the national anthem in 2016 to protest racial injustice inspired others and kicked off years of conflicts. He became a free agent in 2017 and remains unsigned by an NFL team, a situation many analysts attributed to political blowback from the controversy sparked by his protest.
This is Colin Kaepernick, a guy who wore pig socks during football practice. A guy who decided to start kneeling when the National Anthem is played. He’s a guy who trots around wearing Che Gueverra t-shirts, and thought Fidel Castro was a very nice person. He’s ALSO the guy who CHOSE to walk away from his contract with the San Francisco 49’ers!
But now he’s claiming in his Netflix film that the NFL combine is like an 1800’s slave auction??!!
In his Netflix special, Colin Kaepernick suggests the NFL training camp is synonymous with literally buying slaves.

Seriously, watch it all. It’s very real and this is the kind of critical race theory horseshit that Kaepernick and Netflix are peddling. Keep in mind, this is the same Netflix whose employees got triggered by a BLACK comedian, Dave Chappelle, saying funny things about transgenders. The irony here is incredibly rich.
But let’s go back to this Kaepernick Netflix documentary. It’s supposed to bring about new conversations about race and privilege.

The San Francisco 49ers selected Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick with their 36th overall pick in the second-round of the 2011 NFL Draft. They signed Kaepernick to a four-year, $5.1 million contract and his average salary was $1.2 million annually. Kaepernick also received $3.8m of the $5.1 million in guaranteed money.

How much money did slaves make in the 1800’s? ZERO. ZILCH. NADA. Yet we are supposed to take Kaepernick’s word for it that the NFL combine is the exact same thing as an 1800’s slave auction??!!

Burgess Owens would know. Why? A. He was an NFL football player himself. B. He can trace his ancestry directly back to slavery and grew up being told stories about family members being sold on the auction blocks.
If that’s not egregious enough, Colin Kaepernick shows his true colors regarding his family.
The series itself often feels like a not-so-passive aggressive swipe at the authority figures – all seemingly white – who doubted his goals and made it tougher for him to be himself, including his parents.
Played by Nick Offerman and Mary-Louise Parker, Rick and Teresa Kaepernick are well-meaning white folk who listen to Christian rock on long car rides and dress like all their clothes came from T.J. Maxx and Marshalls. They adopted Colin as a baby in Wisconsin and moved to Turlock, California – another place, the former NFL star notes wryly, known for dairy farming and a scarcity of Black people.
The sheer amount of disrespect, even hatred, that he displays towards his white parents during this documentary is unreal. And it most certainly is a passive-aggressive swipe at all white people. Kaepernick is literally blaming all white people for HIS choices in life.
What comes across to me is that he was a mouthy disrespectful kid who has now grown up to be a condescending historically illiterate ass.

Keep in mind, Kaepernick is making millions from his Netflix deal. Furthermore, he is and has made millions from his Nike deal. Nike makes their crap in China at factories that use slave labor. Colin won’t call Nike out for that, because of all that wonderful money they are handing him. Enes Kanter has more cojones than Kaepernick ever will.

But we are supposed to applaud Colin for his efforts to become “black.”
What I found most compelling about Colin in Black and White is something I wish the show had spent more time exploring: Kaepernick’s decision to choose being Black.
No, what Colin Kaepernick has chosen to become is a disrespectful, lecturing, virtue-signaling multi-millionaire jackass who is using his skin color as a club. He’s using his skin color as the excuse as to why things didn’t go his way. He’s using his skin color to explain why all the white coaches were so harsh on him, and why his white parents were clueless about how to raise a black kid.
Keep in mind, this is the same guy who sued the NFL because no team would pick him up after his anthem kneeling stunts. But now, the NFL combine is an 1800’s slave auction? Just when you think Colin Kaepernick can’t go any lower, down he goes.

No. Let’s get this straight right from the start. NO ONE WANTED TO PLAY HIM BECAUSE HE SUCKED AS A QUARTERBACK. THEN he started the protests. THEN teams that might have given him a chance before said “Ain’t no way, Nelly, that I’m putting that sh*t magnet on my roster!”
His unhireability was related to his suckiness as a quarterback FIRST, and only secondarily to his suckiness as an American.

Let’s make two VERY BIG distinctions between chattel slavery in America and the NFL.
First, chattel slavery in America was almost entirely centered around Africans and their descendants. The NFL IS NOT. The white quarterback or lineman or running back gets poked and prodded the same way the black or hispanic or asian or native one* does.
Second, and probably most important, is that the $300 paid for the slave went to the slave master. The $300 million paid for super-duper sports stars in the NFL goes to the PLAYER.
(* Oh yes, I know there are few asians or natives in the NFL. And there’s fewer whites than there used to be. But this is a product of choices in various American cultures, with a significant portion of black cultures deciding that sports is the only possible ticket out of poverty, and they aim for the big lottery ticket in college, instead of working at the pretty well guaranteed, but MUCH less well-paid, engineering or science or teaching or business worlds.)

One of the worst things to happen to our society is the proliferation of therapeutic claptrap that not only allows but encourages projection of blame onto others, instead of looking first and foremost at oneself.
(A lot can be learned from the old saw that the one commonality in every failed relationship you’ve ever had is … you.)

And I’ll actually agree with this. Because it seems he went from being raised to be an American and a Christian to choosing to be “Black”. He chose to believe something that changed his worldview (though maybe not as much as we first thought) as to his fundamental identity. That choice has an entire lifetime eternity of consequences.

Remember, Nina, that no team would pick him up BEFORE his kneeling stunts, either. He took to politics because he wasn’t very good at quarterbacking. (One takes work, and the other one just a grudge.)
