Kellyanne Conway is often publicly at odds with her husband, George. His sole mission: to stop Trump, at all costs. Aligning with anyone who shares his goal, and most recently by donating to Joe Biden’s campaign. Meanwhile Kellyanne addressed questions about a Trump v Biden showdown for 2020. Holding extremely polarized viewpoints and opposing goals, this relationship looks like a sacrifice on the alter of DC politics.
George Conway’s anti-Trump stance has evolved from neutral to overt opposition. Recently he’s combined forces with other “Republicans” and former Republicans to create the “Lincoln Project.” An organization with the mission statement,
Defeat President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box.
We do not undertake this task lightly nor from ideological preference. Our many policy differences with national Democrats remain. However, the priority for all patriotic Americans must be a shared fidelity to the Constitution and a commitment to defeat those candidates who have abandoned their constitutional oaths, regardless of party. Electing Democrats who support the Constitution over Republicans who do not is a worthy effort.”
Does this mean he sits it out if Sanders is the nominee? Because Bernie holds ideas contrary to those in the Constitution. Where does George Conway draw the line on his dislike for Trump?
He is taking an aggressive anti-Trump stance, seemingly more so as his wife will certainly be collateral damage.
George recently proclaimed his support for Joe Biden, sharing his donation link on Twitter.

His recent Tweets have been directed at Kellyanne, and her job in the White House. Pretty snarky to directly attack your wife on Twitter! I’m guessing your Christmas stocking was filled with coal.
Do these people talk at home? It’s one thing to have differing opinions and goals, but this seems personal.
She’s both, but that doesn’t mean I’m playing a game.

During George’s escapades and attacks, Kellyanne has continued doing her job. Recently, despite opportunity to directly respond to questions about her husband, she deflects and stays on point. As a trusted surrogate for POTUS, she shares his message.
Following George’s donation to Biden, Kellyanne gave this interview to Fox News,
George has really taken to heart the words he co-wrote in a December 17, 2019 New York Times opinion piece,
Our many policy differences with national Democrats remain, but our shared fidelity to the Constitution dictates a common effort.”
He continues,
The 2020 general election, by every indication, will be about persuasion, with turnout expected to be at record highs. Our efforts are aimed at persuading enough disaffected conservatives, Republicans and Republican-leaning independents in swing states and districts to help ensure a victory in the Electoral College, and congressional majorities that don’t enable or abet Mr. Trump’s violations of the Constitution, even if that means Democratic control of the Senate and an expanded Democratic majority in the House.”
One more time for the people in back,
even if that means Democratic control of the Senate and an expanded Democratic majority in the House.”
It explains the company he keeps. “boston.com” writes of the picture,
In November, George Conway attended a “Resistance” party at the New York apartment of Molly Jong-Fast, an author and daughter of Erica Jong. Comedian Kathy Griffin posted a photograph on Instagram of George Conway hiding coyly behind liberal journalist Soledad O’Brien. Nearby were E. Jean Carroll, a writer who has accused Trump of rape, and the Hillary Clinton stalwart Philippe Reines.”

Exactly whom in the picture from Kathy Griffin’s Instagram post fits that description? The Hillary Clinton”stalwart”? Or maybe the not funny comedian who is happy to express her distaste in a mock Trump beheading photo? You remember the one, done in the style of ISIS – a group highly supportive of Constitutional Rights. Yes, this “Resistance Party” group has the lineage of being strong in support of the Constitution.
James Carville and Mary Matalin are notorious for being political odd-fellows. They independently held positions of influence as DC power players, albeit on opposing sides. Each was firmly respected and credible in their field. Their pairing feels natural, and despite heated head to head debates, they seem to hold mutual respect and admiration for the other.
This is not the case with Kellyanne and George Conway. Although a successful New York attorney, his social standing in DC is firmly linked to his wife’s position. Were Kellyanne not the Right Hand Woman to the President, George Conway would be just another unhappy “Republican” out to stop Trump. He wouldn’t be running the Georgetown party circuit, with the likes of DC Socialite-Author Sally Quinn.
It must rub harshly that his Georgetown cocktail party standing is firmly linked through his wife’s relationship with someone he despises. Maybe that’s the reason for his direct attacks. The Washington Examiner writes in a December 02, 2019 piece,
Kellyanne Conway tweeted out a video of Trump’s rival Joe Biden recounting that, during his time as a lifeguard, children would play with his leg hair, writing, “WATCH: Sleepy Joe is Creepy Joe. We need Ukraine’s help to defeat THIS guy?”
George Conway, who strongly opposes Trump, quote-tweeted his wife, responding, “Your boss apparently thought so.”
The piece continues,
Conway has told friends that he thinks that his wife, who has worked for Trump since before he was elected, is in “a cult.”
2020 will bring many changes to the landscape of American politics. A contentious battle for the White House will further divide us, and we will tuck into our polarized corners across the chasm. Ideally the Conway’s show us how to bridge the divide, ala Matalin/Carville. Unfortunately, I don’t see it happening. I wish them, and us, the best of luck in 2020.
