Laser Beam Focus on Real World Issues: Golf and Dance

Laser Beam Focus on Real World Issues: Golf and Dance

In the course of a 24-hour period, a group of fewer than 20 advisors went zipping through the Mount Sinjar area. Their “speedy” assessment concluded that more Yazidi’s have escaped the mountain than previously thought, and the situation isn’t as bad as everyone thinks it is. Therefore, there is no need for any type of rescue mission, and aid drops by the US and UK will be suspended.

At a press briefing Thursday afternoon, President declared:

Because of the skill and professionalism of our military –- and the generosity of our people –- we broke the ISIL siege of Mount Sinjar; we helped vulnerable people reach safety; and we helped save many innocent lives.

The UN says, not so fast. In fact, the UN questions the assertions of how many Yazidi’s are still stranded on Mount Sinjar, and held their own press conference.

The situation on the mountain is not over,” the UN spokesman said. “At least several thousand people” are still stranded on Mount Sinjar and in need of urgent assistance.

But that’s ok. President Obama seems to declare mission accomplished while the UN, rightly so, worries about what happens next to all those people who’ve been violently uprooted from their lives because of ISIS. ISIS by the way, remains a threat to us all whether the President likes it or not.

But I guess the President wants to be done with the Yazidis Focus People!  Golf! Dancing!

Oh but wait just a gosh darn minute! Before the President could scurry off to the golf game scheduled on Thursday afternoon, he had to speak about Ferguson, AGAIN. Because Ferguson has been in the news for the last couple of days… don’tcha know?

You see, on Wednesday night the situation worsened. More protesters, more violence and damage, and reporters arrested. The night was far from peaceful. Kit outlined the events thoroughly here.

Does the President call for the violent protests to stop? Does he call for the looting to stop? Did he condemn the protestors who are destroying property and throwing Molotov cocktails around like candy?  Nope

Instead he states:

There is never an excuse for violence against police, or for those who would use this tragedy as a cover for vandalism or looting. There’s also no excuse for police to use excessive force against peaceful protests, or to throw protestors in jail for lawfully exercising their First Amendment rights. And here, in the United States of America, police should not be bullying or arresting journalists who are just trying to do their jobs and report to the American people on what they see on the ground. Put simply, we all need to hold ourselves to a high standard, particularly those of us in positions of authority.

The president wants peaceful protests, tells us it’s a time for healing, says stay away from hurting reporters, and declares it is time for peace and calm in Ferguson. It is so “healing” to know that Ferguson was imploding on Wednesday night while the President danced. It must’ve been very “calming” for all who were partying at the golf club. I’m sure all the guests were appreciative of the fact that the venue was “peacefully” free from tear gas. In fact it seems they all had a very good time.  Well, everyone that is but the Yazidi’s and the folks in Ferguson.

But that’s A-OK!  You see, the President held a press conference, told us he cares and is now focusing like a laser beam on items of critical importance.
