Yesterday President Trump, while at an appearance in West Virginia, dumped his prepared speech in favor of hitting a number of wide ranging subjects, including illegal immigration. He spoke about the wall, he discussed the current caravan of illegals, and he talked about rape.
Yes, RAPE. During his wide-ranging speech the President made the following claim.
President Donald Trump, urging tougher security measures along the U.S.-Mexico border on Thursday, claimed that women “are being raped at numbers never seen before” while an immigrant caravan is heading toward the U.S.
“Yesterday, it came out where this journey coming up, women are raped at levels that nobody has ever seen before,” the president said at a White House tax reform event in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. “They don’t want to mention that, so we have to change our laws.”
That certainly got the attention of quite a few folks. Not necessarily enough to get it trending on Twitter, but there was some definite reaction. This is from a Buzzfeed reporter who has been traveling with the caravan.
Just asked one of the caravan organizers if there were any reports of rape on the caravan.
"No," said Rodrigo Abeja. "None whatsoever."

At which many immediately took to mean TRUMP LIED!!! But did he? Did he really?
According to many, he’s made this false claim since his Presidential campaign announcement.
“Remember my opening remarks at Trump Tower when I opened. Everybody said: ‘Oh, he was so tough. I used the word rape. Yesterday it came out where this journey coming up, women are raped at levels that nobody has ever seen before. They don’t want to mention that,” Trump said on Thursday.
The news of course is saying that his claims were unsubstantiated.
Oh really? Just because he didn’t spout facts and figures that means his claim is bogus according to the media…right?
That means that not a single woman or young girl trying to enter the U.S. illegally has ever been assaulted or raped. Right? WRONG.
Perhaps there weren’t women raped in this caravan. I sincerely hope not. But number of women and young girls attempting to enter this country who ARE raped is unreal.
According to a stunning Fusion investigation, 80 percent of women and girls crossing into the U.S. by way of Mexico are raped during their journey. That’s up from a previous estimate of 60 percent, according to an Amnesty International report.
The above statistic is from an article the Huffington Post published in 2014. There’s more.
This year alone, immigration authorities expect more than 70,000 unaccompanied minors to come through the United States unlawfully, the majority of whom are from Central American countries of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The number of unaccompanied Central American girls caught at the Southwest border has rapidly outpaced the number boys, according to a July Pew Research study.
Through May, the number of unaccompanied girls younger than 18 caught at the US-Mexico border increased by 77 percent.
But while many of these girls are fleeing their homes because of fears of being sexually assaulted, according to the UNHCR, they are still meeting that same fate on their journey to freedom.
Keep in mind the current caravan is made up of mostly Hondurans. Were women raped prior to Buzzfeed’s Adolfo Flores joining them? I sincerely hope not, but it could very well have happened. Particularly since Flores only asked the question of one of the organizers of the caravan. Did he ask any of the women or young girls? There’s no evidence of that.
The Washington Post would have us all believe that Trump doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about. WaPo would have us believe that there are no statistics to back up his claim. As seen above, the actual facts prove otherwise.
Illegal immigration and the dangers it poses continues to this day. However, the reports of rape among women illegals are non-existent. President Trump has bluntly spoken about this multiple times since his campaign announcement. The question is, why did the media go silent after 2014?
One thing to point out, sortof contrarian: some of the same people claiming lots of women raped on their way to America are the same people claiming 1 in 5 women on a college campus is raped, and other such flim-flammery. Regardless of their stance on the invasion itself, they have a vested interest in claiming women everywhere are raped/assaulted/groped/whistled at/stared at. It doesn’t mean they’re wrong, it means their claims are suspect.
Having said that, I will also fling some mud at Trump for once again tossing out inflammatory rhetoric without any sort of support. I’m betting there is some support, but his … flamboyance in erupting into these geysers of rhetoric is annoying. Even when he’s right.
Either way, the lack or abundance of rape incidents during this “caravan” or any other illegal alien invasion of our borders has no relevance to the moral stature of the invasion itself, except to possibly impeach any advocates thereof.
