Today is the 70th anniversary of the state of Israel in its modern form, and today, the United States has formally moved its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem – an act which affirms our relationship with Israel and recognizes the political realities of the Middle East.
For 70 years, the United States and Israel have developed a partnership unlike any other. We are proud to be at the forefront of this special friendship, now from Israel's capital- Jerusalem. #USIsraelPartnership #USEmbassyJerusalem pic.twitter.com/OheKMnfnPW

The Trump administration is following through on a Clinton-era law, passed in 1995, requiring the United States to move the embassy to Jerusalem. However, every single president since has delayed the implementation of that law. Trump made it a campaign promise, and affirmed that the move would be happening last December. And now, that campaign promise is a reality with today’s formal opening ceremonies.
(US Ambassador to Israel David) Friedman is set to preside over the dedication ceremony. He’ll be backed by a delegation that includes Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin, Senior adviser and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, senior adviser and first daughter Ivanka Trump, and Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt.

President Trump will also appear in a video message to be played at the opening.
US officials say the move represents the long standing reality that Jerusalem is Israel’s capital.
It also reflects a new Middle East reality, where ongoing wars in Syria and Iraq, and conflict in Yemen are uniting Israeli, American and Gulf Arabs around a central geopolitical focus: containing and constraining Iran.
Israeli officials and others are downright excited over this international acknowledgement.

And the fact that this was Trump’s decision is not going unnoticed.
The Beitar Jerusalem Football Club, a symbol of the city founded in 1936, has long been linked with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party and is notorious for episodes of racism and violence, announced on Sunday that it was changing its name to Beitar “Trump” Jerusalem. “President Trump has displayed courage, vision and true love for the people of Israel and their capital,” the soccer club said in a statement.
In December, Israel’s minister for transportation, Israel Katz, said he wanted to put Mr. Trump’s name on a proposed new train station in the Old City.

It is also the 51st anniversary of “Jerusalem Day,” the reunification of the city after the Six Day War of 1967.
Of course, not all is well for those who hate Israel.

Is anyone surprised that Hamas is looking to riot?
The Israeli military is gearing up for fierce “March of Return” protests along the Gaza security fence on Monday, with more than 100,000 Palestinians expected to take part, and dire warnings from the IDF that hundreds plan to try breach the fence and carry out a “massacre” of Israeli civilians.
The protests are now set for Monday, to coincide with the move of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and not on Tuesday’s Nakba Day, as was originally expected.
The Israel Defense Forces expects over 100,000 Palestinians to take part in the mass demonstrations and potentially as many as 200,000, something that would indicate a major victory for the Hamas terrorist group, which rules Gaza and has co-opted for its own ends what were originally slated to be weeks of nonviolent protests.
The last two months of riots have all been leading up to May 15 or "Nakba Day" when Hamas is planning a mass infiltration, but the IDF won't let it happen pic.twitter.com/97EreRQ5To

The IDF is going to be prepared for anything, and I hope our new embassy is prepared as well. There is nothing more that al-Qaida or Hamas or any other terrorist opportunist wants than to wreck the embassy on day one.
Victory Girls will update this story as it develops throughout the day.

And the threatened protests in Gaza have begun.

To recap: 35,000 Palestinians are participating in violent Hamas-led riots on the Gaza-Israel border; they're attacking Israeli servicemen with gunfire, Molotov cocktails, and rocks, and have set an Israeli field on fire; three attempted to plant a bomb; one Israeli wounded.

So far, 37 are reported dead in Gaza, with more casualties sure to occur as the riots continue.
It also reflects a new Middle East reality, where ongoing wars in Syria and Iraq, and conflict in Yemen are uniting Israeli, American and Gulf Arabs around a central geopolitical focus: containing and constraining Iran.
It also is looking at constraining the Wahhabi strain of stupid. That is extremely positive.
Some Palestinian (or other anti-Israel) group is complaining about our “illegal” move of the embassy. Nowhere in the story was it mentioned why the move was “illegal”. Even the news agency seemed baffled by that unsupported claim.
hundreds plan to try breach the fence and carry out a “massacre” of Israeli civilians
I’m a big fan of the two-fence concept. First one is “this is our boundary – do NOT cross.” Second one is to slow them down once they’ve already technically invaded your country, so you can mow them down in job lots.
Happy to see us finally do this!
Mazal Tov, y’all!
