Twitter Cancels The Streaming Of What Is A Woman. Or Did They?

Twitter cancels the streaming of The Daily Wire’s What Is A Woman documentary. Or did they? It sounded like they wanted to until Elon stepped in.

If you haven’t heard, Matt Walsh from The Daily Wire made a documentary titled What Is A Woman, and to watch it, you had to pay for it via The Daily Wire. But this week, The Daily Wire’s CEO, Jeremy Boreing, reached out to Twitter to strike a deal to stream it on Twitter for free to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the documentary. You know, since Elon Musk is the new champion of free speech and all.

Initially, Twitter responded enthusiastically to the idea, even offering The Daily Wire a package to purchase a whole page for Twitter users to view the film, Daily Wire co-CEO Jeremy Boreing said. That changed after the platform asked to view a screening of the film. – The Daily Wire

If you haven’t kept up with the Twitter drama, The Victory Girls have covered it extensively. You can read all about it here and get caught up on the Twitter Files and everything Elon Musk Twitter related.

Since most big tech and media companies would not touch the documentary to at least talk about it or promote it, Matt Walsh sought other ways to market it. So here he is talking about his appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

So, back to the misstep with Elon’s Twitter and The Daily Wire’s What Is A Woman. Elon Musk hired a new CEO for Twitter because he has other stuff to attend to; Tesla, Neuralink, and SpaceX. The new CEO is Linda Yaccarino.

Now I don’t know if this had anything to do with the “confusion” of what was said during the back and forth between Twitter executives and Jeremy Boreing or not, but it wasn’t long before someone got a hold of Elon, who was out of the country at the time, to get him to step in. I wonder how Linda feels about that.

It Is Definitely Allowed

Elon did indeed step in, saying, “It is definitely allowed.” He also went on to cover all his bases:

“Whether or not you agree with using someone’s preferred pronouns, not doing so is at most rude and certainly breaks no laws.”

“I should note that I do personally use someone’s preferred pronouns, just as I use someone’s preferred name, simply from the standpoint of good manners,” he continued. “However, for the same reason, I object to rude behavior, ostracism or threats of violence if the wrong pronoun or name is used.”

Emphasis mine. And that’s fine, Elon, that you want to use someone’s preferred pronouns, but some of us don’t want to participate in the fantasy land of pronouns or celebrate mental illness. It has nothing to do with good manners, sir.

And here is the big ole long Twitter thread by Jeremy Boreing.

Also, this from Mediaite:

@elonmusk is not beholden to conservatives. He has the right to run his business as he sees fit. But if Twitter is going to throttle one side of one of the most important debates facing society, it cannot claim to champion free speech.

Jeremy Boreing says he plans to still air the documentary on Twitter tonight at 8:00pm Eastern time and that we’ll all find out together whether Twitter will suppress the viewing and label it as hateful conduct or will they keep their commitment to being a champion for free speech?

In a lot of browsers, Carol, blockquote material is italicized AND bolded, so we can’t see any emphasis. Aside from the extra space around it, it’s the reason I stopped using blockquote to quote for comments. (I enjoy my strongs and ems too much to let them go to waste. 😉 )

    the fantasy land of pronouns
Unless I’m talking to a third person about you, the only pronoun you’ll ever hear me use for you is … you. Because that’s the English second person singular pronoun – and, surprise!, it’s gender neutral. What you’re really looking for (aside from a narcissistic need for control) is for me to use a nickname. Where I come from, nicknames are given not asked for, so are you really sure you want me giving you one?

As to this whole little fiasco, I wonder how much is drama from Matt and Jeremy*, and how much is the new CEO and how much is just some old staffers that survived the first purging. It seems to have gotten the owner’s attention, for certain. I hope Elon puts enough pressure on everyone to start following his lead.

(* Those guys have a partisan website to promote. I don’t blame them if they amped up the drama some.)

    fantasy land of pronouns

Male, him, he, etc. XY chromosomes
Female: her, she, etc. XX chromosomes

There are no special chromosomes for they/thems and I ain’t indulging them. And the answer to “But if it doesn’t hurt you” is that you are trying to force me into your reality and trying to control my speech about you when you aren’t around. Nope. No deal.

Well, there are… kinda. There are actual intersex people who have messed up chromosomes: XXY, XYY. (And I think XYY might not display as intersex.) But those people are very few and far between, AND they tend to be very desirous of actually being one sex or the other. I know of one who was finally able to afford surgery after decades of living with the condition.

And, those people are NOT the folks out there demanding “they/them” and other carp.

But those people are very few and far between. EXACTLY. But I wouldn’t be surprised if people start claiming otherwise.
