Sunday Morning Cafe Cocktails

Mimosa, Bloody Mary, nice flute of champagne — or maybe a favorite tipple in your coffee. Make yourself one and join me at our own Algonquin Round Table, the spirit of Dorothy Parker abides.

Happy Sunday, dear friends! A couple milestones to remember today. We started our little Sunday brunch together in September of 2022. Can you believe it? Four years and all the cases of champagne that have been quaffed! Not to mention the pastries and bacon. Second, and a little more somber, is that it has been 25 years since 9/11/2001. Victory Girls has done a week of posts (I do hope you read the Roundtable series – here, here, here, here) and I’m not quite ready to let go of it. So among the usual fare of Leftoids Behaving Badly — goodness, what an endless supply! — there are a few stories of ordinary Americans who did extraordinary things that day. Please grab your flutes and let’s raise them to those heroes. May their memories be blessings.

Washington Democrats refuse to read the fine print

Not only did Washington State Democrats defy the state constitution to enact an income tax (on “millionaire” households) but they snuck in a provision that stripped the state’s public employee pensions’ exemption from taxes.

The time bombs mentioned above are individual clauses in the tax bill that apply the Income Tax to the Retirement Plans of all Public employees. There is a separate clause, mentioning every single public employee retirement fund (each group has their own account) as being subject to income taxation. I’m betting that those public unions didn’t see themselves as having to pay that tax, only the amorphous “millionaires” in Washington.

I’m sure the unions are keeping their fingers crossed that the income level for the tax stays at “millionaire household” level, even though the legislature built-in a “can raise at any time” provision.

Oops.

California falls for the Nigerian Prince scam

Though, considering how rampant this kind of fraud is in California — and that the Democrats are so scared of exposure they passed the “Stop Nick Shirley Act” — how much of that $36million made it back into Democrat campaign funds? Hmmmmm… inquiring minds …

Worth repeating … and I cry every time.

I’m sorry to say, dears, that our time together this Sunday has come to a close. Please grab snacks on your way out and enjoy the rest of the day and I’ll see you next week. Cheers!
