You’d think Mitt Romney would know by now that Never Trumpers don’t fare well against a Trump counter punch. But he dissed the President anyway, then felt the wrath of Trump after calling him out for his “brazen” appeal to China and Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden.
As they say, “Them’s fightin’ words,” especially in Trump World.
On Saturday, the President took to his favorite platform — Twitter, what else? — to attack Mittens in some sick burns.
First, he called Romney a “pompous ass.” Then, he suggested that Romney be impeached as Senator from Utah:
“I’m hearing that the Great People of Utah are considering their vote for their Pompous Senator, Mitt Romney, to be a big mistake. I agree! He is a fool who is playing right into the hands of the Do Nothing Democrats! #IMPEACHMITTROMNEY.”
Never mind that Senators can’t be impeached. They can be recalled, however, and Romney has the highest disapproval rating among Utah’s members of Congress.
Then, when Fox News’ Kevin Corke tweeted the “Question of the afternoon. . . Has #MittRomney become the new #JeffFlake or is the latest back and forth much ado about nothing?” Trump tweeted back:
“No Kevin, Jeff Flake is better!”
But Trump saved the sickest burn for early Saturday evening.
Mitt, get off the stage, you’ve had your turn (twice)! https://t.co/zz6TA6XoGe

Ooh, burn, baby, burn!

That is not to say, however, that Romney didn’t have his supporters. Diehard Never Trumper Bill Kristol put out a Twitter poll asking readers to respond with who was more respected — Trump or Romney.
Let’s see how much of a hellscape Twitter is. Whom do you respect more?

Maybe Kristol anticipated the results of his poll, but put it out there anyway so he could feel all superior or something. Because as of this writing, Trump trounces Romney, 66% to 34%.
Not only that, but the New York Times — yes, those guys! — published a feature article on Saturday entitled:
“The ‘Never Trump’ Coalition that Decided Eh, Never Mind, He’s Fine”
The article then starts with a discussion of Erick Erickson, the originator of the hashtag #NeverTrump, who wrote this piece in The Resurgent just a few days ago:
“I Support the President”
The NYT continued with the conversions of radio host Glenn Beck, National Review editor Rich Lowry, and Media Research Center’s L. Brent Bozell — all were Never Trumpers back in 2016. But now they support the President. Perhaps Mitt Romney should read the New York Times.
Look, I’ll be honest here: Trump sometimes gives me heartburn. Okay, he gives me a lot of heartburn. And I did a facepalm when Trump congratulated Communist China on its 70th anniversary, although I also saw that I wasn’t alone. In fact, several GOP lawmakers and staunch Trump supporters didn’t care for it either.
But I later heard Nancy Pelosi say this about the President:
“Having said all of that, separate from that, the reelection of Donald Trump would do irreparable damage to the United States. We have some serious repair and healing to do in our country for what he’s done so far. I’m not sure that two terms — it might be irreparable.”
And I thought to myself: Who the hell are you, lady, to tell a chunk of the nation that they might do “irreparable” harm to the nation if they re-elect Trump?
Furthermore, who the hell is Mitt Romney to pile on with the Democrats for an action that even Erick Erickson said wasn’t worthy of impeachment? Is he that sanctimonious? Or is he Hillary Lite — pissed off that Trump got to the White House and he didn’t?
Mitt Romney deserves every bit of Trump’s burn.

There, fixed it for ya Nancy… now go away!
Romney is, like Hillary, a loser that struggles on, hoping to become some kind of lesser winner. Won’t happen…for either of them. As they tear others down…they go down with them !!
He’s trying to become the second John McCain. Just without the charisma.
