Privilege And The Chicago Way: All Charges Against Jussie Smollett Dropped

This week’s news cycle has been a raging bonfire on all levels. And now the Cook County prosecutors, in an unscheduled hearing, agreed to drop ALL the charges against Jussie Smollett. That sound you heard was my jaw clunking onto my desk at this news.

We’ve written about the case and it’s weirdness here, here, and here. Jussie Smollett’s claim that he was jumped in the wee hours of the morning by MAGA hat wearing dudes when the temperature was a balmy 3 degrees, never passed the smell test. And, as we all found out, he made the entire thing up. Which led to him being charged with 16 counts of disorderly conduct. He filed a false police report!

Yet now, all charges are dropped.

“After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the City of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case,” the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office stated in an email.”

If he is innocent, then why did he forfeit his bond? Something stinks to high heaven here.

But of course, Jussie and team are super duper relieved at this news.

““Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him. Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29th. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgement,” spokeswoman Anne Kavanaugh stated in an email.

“Jussie and many others were hurt by these unfair and unwarranted actions. This entire situation is a reminder that there should never be an attempt to prove a case in the court of public opinion. That is wrong. It is a reminder that a victim, in this case Jussie, deserves dignity and respect. Dismissal of charges against the victim in this case was the only just result.

“Jussie is relieved to have this situation behind him and is very much looking forward to getting back to focusing on his family, friends and career.””

HE was the victim?? Give me a freaking break.

Needless to say, the fact that this case was summarily dismissed has caused jaws to drop all over the place. Not only that, but the timing of this just one day after we find out that his celebrity attorney, Mark Geragos, was a co-conspirator with Michael Avenatti and their Nike extortion scheme, is suspicious in my opinion.

Here’s another interesting piece regarding all the charges being dismissed.

Smollett did community service? Where? When? How many hours? Oh wait …

So he did community service at some point in the past and the prosecutors said it could count with THIS case?

It’s not confusing, it’s ridiculous and infuriating.

Know something else that is infuriating? The Chicago PD was NOT notified that all the charges were going to be dropped.

“Sources tell CBS 2 that CPD Superintendent Eddie Johnson is furious and that he received no notification about the charges being dropped. CBS 2 is told that he will speak after the police graduation taking place.”

Wow. Talk about a giant misstep by the Cook County prosectors office! Understandably the Police Union and others want Kim Foxx to be investigated by the Feds. Why?

“The request came after Foxx exchanged text messages and emails with relatives and a supporter of Smollett, who said they were worried about leaks in the investigation.

Foxx later recused herself from the case.

The FOP wants federal investigators to determine whether Foxx broke the law.”

Guess what folks? Kim Foxx is the one who appeared in court this morning to get all the charges against Smollett dropped!

Smollett’s statement is quite something.

I guess this is what you call Privilege and the Chicago Way.

This week’s news cycle has been a raging bonfire on all levels.
    And it’s only Tuesday.

It’s a way of fining him, without going to the trouble of actually marking him as “Guilty” somewhere in the annals of Chicago villainy (which a plea agreement would do).

Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on January 29th.
So, he’s just gonna keep on lying. Good to know. Because now we can try suing him – class-action – for libel and slander. Any lawyers out there that want to try that one on for size?

    made to appear as
Ha! His own stupidity caused him to “appear” that way!

    Give me a freaking break.
You should really go full-Marta on that one.
(As Kalie says in Firefly (Jaynestown), “Now, this would be the perfect time for a swear word.”)

  • Dietrich says:

Sooooo, now we have to confront Black, Gay privilege?
Smollett is this era’s O.J. Simpson?

    • GWB says:

Well, no one but the media’s credibility died at his hands, so, no……………

    • Bill G says:

Exactly. He was ‘way overcharged. Some evil-minded folks would say that was intentional, so the charges could then be cut down. But no, they were eliminated. Black + Gay + Chicago. Add it up.

  • His_Highness says:

    Black privilege. Ain’t it great!?

  • Jim says:

So he’s a double victim now. Does that get him the pay rise he wanted? It certainly gained him notoriety.

I believe there is something rotten in the State of Illinois.

  • Mort says:

This is Kim Foxx and Kwame Raoul at work. I thought Lisa Madigan was bad…

  • TLlano says:

So, do some community service. Fake a hate crime. Then the charges will be dismissed. That’s the new standard. We can all do this in Chicago now.

  • John says:

Let’s hope that the judge and prosecutor at least got a decent bribe out of it.

  • SDN says:

And this right here is why a second hot civil war can be argued as both necessary and desirable.

  • […] you will remember, the initial set of charges against Jussie Smollett were dismissed by the Cook County prosecutors (specifically Kim Foxx) in order to sweep everything under the rug. […]
