Spike Lee’s Latest Rant: Compares Trump to Hitler

What else can we expect from Hollywood? More shameless promotion laden with more hypocrisy. This time from Spike Lee. His latest “joint”, Chi-Raq, appropriately set in the shooting capital of America, the south side of Chicago.

Chi-Raq, set to hit theaters on December 4th, is an adaptation of Aristiphane’s Greek comedy Lysistrata. Following the gang shooting death of a young black girl, in order to quell the epidemic of gun violence, Lysistrata (Teyonah Parris) enlists each and every woman in Chicago to go on a “sex strike” and abide by the mantra: “No peace, no p*ssy.”

Way to wield feminine influence, eh? The mantra “no peace, no p*ssy” translates in the complete interview available here into an opportunity for Lee to push his agenda on his version of politics, police brutality and yes, Donald Trump.

On the filming of Chi-Raq and Chicago’s south side:

There’s food deserts, many of the schools are no good, there’s no trauma center. There’s no trauma center on the South Side of Chicago! I’m positive there are people who are dead today that could be alive if there was a trauma center in the South Side, and they didn’t have to travel downtown or somewhere else. I’m positive.

When asked if Rahm Emanuel was involved in the decline of the poor conditions of Chicago’s south side, Lee went on:

Well, you could go back to Mayor Daley. And right now, the Republican governor of Illinois, Bruce Rauner, is cutting programs. The summer before last, Father Pfleger had funds allocated and had 3,000 summer jobs to get kids off the streets. I don’t know the exact number, but it was significantly cut. And those jobs are a matter of life and death.

For a minute, we thought Lee was going to blame Daley (a Democrat)…but see what he does here? He goes on to pin the sole culpability on the Republican governor and leaves Rahm Emanuel (once upon a time in his buddy Barack’s back pocket and the current Mayor of the city) virtually in the clear of the accountability lane.

Aside of talking gun violence and “licensing” gun owners, Lee claims he is “No Tarantino”. It does not take long before the interview travels away from Chicago’s South Side and to New York City to discuss one Donald Trump. Apparently, Lee seems to have the desire to outdo Trump on outlandish claims when interviewer, Marlow Stern, asks the following question:

Stern:Trump—along with the majority of the GOP’s presidential candidates—are against allowing Syrian refugees into the United States for fear that some of them might be terrorists, when it’s a two-year vetting process for them to even get into the country.

Lee: Let me ask you a question: If you blow up a federal building, is that a terrorist act? Yes. So is Timothy McVeigh a terrorist? Would Donald Trump label Timothy McVeigh a terrorist? I don’t think so. And it was a federal building! And the Planned Parenthood shooter, that guy is a terrorist, too. That’s not the first time some Planned Parenthood building has been shot up. That’s terrorism. So if we want to talk about terrorist, you can’t have this myopic view that all terrorists are Muslims!

Also, everybody in the United States is an immigrant except Native Americans. And another thing—Christopher Columbus Day is gonna be out of here in a couple of years. He was lost! How are you gonna claim to find something when there are people already there? And then the things we did to them.

Stern: And since the 9/11 attacks, out of the 780,000-plus refugees that have been let into the U.S., only three have been linked to terrorism, which is a staggeringly low percentage.

Lee: But you know what Trump’s saying: “They’re thinking about it!” [Laughs] And he wants to close down mosques now. That’s like the Nazis. That’s like Hitler, Mussolini, the Axis Powers. You can’t do that!

We know Trump has been less than orthodox in his commentary but comparing Trump to Hitler for wanting to close mosques that draw suspicion seems a bit like comparing Obama to Hitler for wanting to disarm Americans with anti-gun rhetoric, increases in government spending, increased government regulation, socialized medicine, increased entitlement programs and weeding out the “undesirable and unnecessary” children (COUGH, COUGH). But of course, we can’t compare the messiah to (gasp) Hitler! Besides that, if Spike were to recall history correctly, Hitler wanted to bring the illegal immigrants and refugees in instead of “building a wall” and keeping them out. Just saying. Hitler-shaming has become a trick in the left’s playbook. What better strategy than to compare those with opposing views to the likes of evil in its purest form, Adolf Hitler? Want to own a gun? You must be a Republican, which translates in their minds to: “Trump supporter”(Because all Conservatives support Trump, don’t they? They must according to the polls…) who is “Hitler”. Oppose Planned Parenthood’s ethics? You’re against women’s rights and therefore: Hitler. Skeptical that a few in a crowd of refugees may have less-than good intentions? Hitler. Unfortunately, Lee wasn’t the first to compare Trump to Hitler so he can’t even score creative points for that “joint”. Take a number, Spike-right behind Bill Maher and Eva Longoria. I look around and wonder, who are the “Axis Powers”, really? As for what’s in my wallet, dude? More money because-here’s the thing-I’m not running out to the box office on this one!
