I know that I should feel sorry for First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, alas and alack, I cannot. This woman of privilege. This Ivy League educated lawyer. The First Lady of the United States of America is incapable of talking about the country that enabled her to achieve so much without taking a passing shot at it.
Behold her most recent slam as she received an honorary degree from City College of New York. For our purposes the relevant part is the last minute and twenty some seconds of her twenty three minute speech:
Mrs. Obama feels the need to slam Donald Trump (she and Barack cannot help themselves) and tell us who we are. She pays homage to diversity and political correctness. Great googly moogly, the woman is a one worlder. All cultures have something to contribute….blah, blah, blah.
Writer Yesha Callahan from The Root called the speech “inspiring”. I wasn’t inspired. I was angered.
Why, why, why does Mrs. Obama have to “go there” every doggone time.
“It’s the story that I witness every single day when I wake up in a house that was built by slaves,” she told the Class of 2016. “And I watch my daughters, two beautiful black young women, head off to school, waving goodbye to their father, the president of the United States; the son of a man from Kenya who came here to America for the same reasons as many of you: to get an education and improve his prospects in life,” the first lady stated.
Did slaves build the White House? Sure. Some. From the White House Historical Association:
he D.C. commissioners, charged by Congress with building the new city under the direction of the president, initially planned to import workers from Europe to meet their labor needs. However, response to recruitment was dismal and soon they turned to African American—enslaved and free—to provide the bulk of labor that built the White House, the United States Capitol, and other early government buildings.
Stonemason Collen Williamson trained enslaved people on the spot at the government’s quarry at Aquia, Virginia. Enslaved people quarried and cut the rough stone that was later dressed and laid by Scottish masons to erect the walls of the President’s House. The slaves joined a work force that included local white laborers and artisans from Maryland and Virginia, as well as immigrants from Ireland, Scotland, and other European nations.
White laborers built the White House and other District of Columbia government buildings also. Why mention slavery at this point? I think it is because deep down in her soul, Mrs. Obama despises America. Not because she is a Black Woman, but because she is a progressive. Just my opinion.
Let’s talk about slavery for moment.
In January, 2015, Mr. and Mrs. Obama visited Saudi Arabia. The government of Saudi Arabia did not officially outlaw slavery until the 1960’s. It continues unofficially in many Middle Eastern, including Saudi Arabia, and African countries.
Did Mrs. Obama ask the White House Travel Office to make sure, that on this trip, their hotels were not built by slaves? Is Mrs. Obama concerned about those enslaved every where in the world today? Is Mrs. Obama aware that the United States fought a bloody war over slavery?
As Mrs. Obama, watches her daughters (who are lovely young women) wave goodbye to their father, The President of the United States, from the back of the chauffeur driven SUV, does she ponder the plight of slaves today?
I would like to feel sorry for the hurt that living in the White House must cause her. I do not.
God, there’s so much one can say but civil discourse is a standard only conservatives are held to. But I sure want to go gutter.
