The Mayor Zohran Mamdani tax on “luxury” homes has been put on pause by a judge in Staten Island, New York. This is only a Temporary Restraining Order. A hearing will be held on August 31, 2026. The lawsuit filed and the pause does not challenge the validity of the tax only the unfortunate mess of determining who might owe it. This thing could be held up by lawsuits till well after Mamdani is gone from office. By the way, my husband doesn’t think he’ll last a whole year.
🚨 BREAKING: A New York judge has BARRED Mamdani from enforcing his new property tax on secondary residences in the city while a homeowners' lawsuit proceeds
Yet another "promise" made by Mamdani that's falling through 🤣

The New York Post is known for its fabulously funny headlines and pithy writing. The Post did not disappoint on this occasion. “Mamdani forced to pause pied-à-terre tax roll-out — and pull down ‘shame the rich’ list in win for NYC homeowners”:
The reign of pied-à-terror is on pause.
Big Apple homeowners fighting the controversial pied-à-terre tax notched an early victory Monday, when a judge stunningly blocked Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s tortured rollout of the new levy.
Staten Island Supreme Court Justice Wayne Ozzi issued the temporary restraining order, effectively putting the luxury second-home tax on ice until at least an Aug. 31 court hearing about the peeved property owners’ lawsuit.
The judge barred the city from taking any further action on the 17,000 notices sent by the Department of Finance to homeowners, which declared they could face a five-figure tax bill unless they requested an exemption.
“Pied-a-terror” describes NYC under Zohran the Cruel. The way Mamdani “governs” seems to show how much he hates New York and New Yorkers. He clearly hates CAPITALISM, the system that has lifted the most people out of poverty (and I am one of them, #AppalachianGirl). So many folk have traveled to NYC to make their fortunes and lift themselves up. Mamdani’s love, Socialism, has killed people willy-nilly and done nothing for the rest of them. Has Mamdani ever read a history book or any Economics book? He and AOC could maybe share. Remember this vile video he posted:
Zohran failed basic math also. First of all, five million dollars is not that much in NYC or any of the boroughs. Next, those who can leave will put on their boogie shoes and rock step right down to Florida. Tennessee is full so don’t stop here. Keep going through Georgia to Florida.
Speaking of idiots like Mamdani, have you read the piece that Nina wrote about Mamdani “Rent Advisor”. It is right here and you should read it now.
This isn’t really a wealth tax. It’s really just a punitive Mamdani tax because he hates New Yorkers. From the Latin Times:
The so-called pied-à-terre tax targets one-, two- and three-family homes valued at $5 million or more, along with co-ops and condos worth $1 million or more, whenever the property isn’t the owner’s primary residence. To administer it, the city’s Department of Finance posted a public database naming upward of 900,000 property owners whose homes could theoretically fall under the surcharge, then mailed roughly 17,000 formal notices demanding proof of residency.
One-, two- and three-family homes valued at $5 million are actually quite modest for the area. And, what if Dad bought a three-family home for his kids and then boogied off down to Florida. Mamdani is going to punish him for keeping the kids in New York to pay the plethora of other taxes. Trust me on this one. NYC gets plenty of tax money without Dad.
New York State Supreme Court Justice Wayne Ozzi has temporarily blocked socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s pied a terre tax because of the arrogant, bullying way he rolled it out—total disregard for constitutional rights to privacy and treating taxpayers as guilty until proven…

That is the dictator’s way. Here is one more thing: Isn’t it better to have some residents live in Florida for part of the year and not suck down NYC water and power or tear up roads?
Mamdani is going to pound his little fists and kick his little feet, with that same condescending smile on his face. He will promise more Hell for residents and pile on more taxes for tourists until he destroys NYC.
Meanwhile, Florida posted a billboard thanking Mamdani for his hard work for the State of Florida:

If only it really was funny. If you are middle-class in NYC, remember that you’re next!
