Yes, I am as serious as a heart attack. E! reports that Dunham donned, took off and auctioned off a sweater with a pink ovary on it and donated the proceeds to Planned Parenthood at the Champion of Choice event in Los Angeles last night.
Dunham, in her usual “classy” fashion, donned a pink ovary sweater, which she auctioned off for $4,000 to benefit Planned Parenthood and followed it up with a bra selfie and this:
“The @plannedparenthood event in LA tonight was so crazy inspiring. I also spontaneously auctioned the ovary patterned sweater off my body for a nice 4K to benefit PP …Had to walk home in my skivvies and a men’s coat #worthit #onbrand #standwithPP.”
Dunham made her rounds this week with the kick off of her “Lenny” e-mail newsletter featuring an interview with Hillary Clinton and an appearance on Ellen to discuss “Lenny” and her interview with Clinton.
“That was a big deal for me because I actually wrote my first-ever term paper on her in first grade. She really let us know sort of what it was like for her to be not just this huge political figure who we all know as larger than life and iconic, but to be sort of a confused woman in her 20s and what that felt like.”
This wasn’t the first time Dunham has come out in support of Planned Parenthood. On Mother’s Day this past May, Dunham took to Twitter with this gem:
This Mother's Day, let's vow to protect our right to become mothers when and how we want #choice #blessthemothers

Are we thunderstruck that Dunham would show up to a Planned Parenthood event? No. Are we surprised that she would jump at any excuse to take any article of clothing on her body off? Not really. Does Planned Parenthood really need another $4,000 dollars? Nah. But seriously, enough already. In between the lines of Dunham’s stunting is an insecure and ignorant woman. Yes, Lena. We know you like to take your clothes off and expose us to your parts because YOU think it’s empowering but it’s not. It does not matter whether you are a size 3 or a size 18. It’s crass, it’s gross and we don’t want to see it. We get it. You have sex. You like Planned Parenthood because they give birth control to young women who want to have sex and feel empowered to skip on down to the local PP branch and snag up some birth control and Planned Parenthood gives you the excuse to talk about how you have sex-kind of like the nerdy kid in college who everyone knew wasn’t getting anywhere with anyone but ran his mouth about his various and sundry escapades much to everyone’s dismay. Dunham’s boyfriend, Jack Antonoff even chimed in this past week in a (horrid) video about his “struggle” to write a song about Planned Parenthood (we hope PP continues to supply him and Dunham with unlimited condoms for life):
If you’re wondering what that was, you’re not alone. If you have not found any humor whatsoever in that little clip, you’re not alone either. Yet these are the voices of the millennials. I find it hard to believe the cavalier attitudes of Dunham and Antonoff embodies our entire country of 20-somethings. Insecure. Narcissistic. Sheltered and self-centered. I will say this to the girls and guys who were where I was 20-something years ago:
Don’t follow the crowd. Don’t follow the Lena Dunhams of the world because they are just as confused as you are and then some. Read. Research. Gain some life experience. Study. Analyze if the big show your hipster friends are putting on for the masses is addressing the problem or fueling the fire or just a ploy to get attention for themselves. Understand what the real issue is. Understand how the issue impacts others, even others who have not found their voice yet. Don’t objectify yourselves- you don’t have to. You don’t have to laugh if you don’t find it funny and if they laugh at you for feeling differently, do you want to be part of that crowd, anyway? Respect your bodies, yourselves. And for the love of God, if you must wear a sweater with pink ovaries emblazoned across your chest, KEEP IT ON!
Perhaps one day soon Planned Parenthood will have to get all their money that way.
If Planned Parenthood is so important the health and welfare of this nation, they should have no trouble funding themselves without turning to the public treasury.
