CBS News is reporting that Vice-President Joe Biden may be declaring his intent to seek the Democratic party’s nomination within the next week.

Even if Biden decides to seek the Democratic nomination before the party’s first debate on Oct. 13, he likely would not participate, sources told CBS News.

They said he’d need time – perhaps a couple of weeks – to put together the foundations of a campaign and raise money looking ahead to several ballot deadlines. States like New Hampshire, Texas and Florida have deadlines beginning in November.

It is getting late in the fundraising game to jump in, but Biden probably was smart to wait it out – mostly to determine if Hillary would implode. If Biden gets into the race, it will put the well-known Obama-Clinton feud into high gear. There is just no way that Biden runs without Obama’s support and blessing – which means that Hillary will not get that help from Obama.

Biden is making more and more noise and reaching out to more interest groups – including appeals to LGBT interest groups this weekend.

Speaking at the Human Rights Campaign’s annual gala in Washington, Biden said gays and lesbians shouldn’t fear Americans trying to undo gay marriage and other advances because the country has moved beyond homophobia.

“There’s homophobes still left,” he continued to laughter and applause, in his keynote address. “Most of them are running for president, I think.”

Yeah, those GOP candidates sure are homophobes. You know, like this guy:

Yes, I know, Biden “changed his mind.” We now know it’s more like he accidentally told the truth, and that he forced the Obama administration into telling that same truth months before they were ready to do so, during the 2012 election season. People now hail what was once called a “gaffe” as “political courage.” Of course, it’s only billed as such because Obama and Biden won the 2012 election. History is kind to the winners.

Biden is putting himself forward as the Democratic establishment candidate alternative to Hillary Clinton. Sure, he may be unable to spell and can be extremely creepy with women, but hey, at least all of his email is on government servers!

If Biden does get into the race, it will really be a battle between himself, Hillary, and Bernie Sanders (forget O’Malley and Chafee – they are so out of it until someone needs to pick a vice-presidential candidate). In other words, three old white people going at it, each trying to out-left each other to represent a party that they say is young and diverse. Let the entertainment begin.
