Marilyn Mosby is NOT a happy camper right now. Judge Williams just announced his verdict in the case of Officer Caesar Goodson.
The Baltimore Police van driver accused of giving a “rough ride” that killed Freddie Gray was acquitted of all charges Thursday by Circuit Judge Barry Williams.
Officer Caesar Goodson Jr., 46, had faced the most serious charges of any of the six officers indicted in Gray’s arrest and death last April, including second-degree depraved heart murder. Goodson was also acquitted of three counts of manslaughter, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office.
Marilyn Mosby is watching her career implode piece by piece and case by case. One police officer is facing a retrial after a hung jury in the first one. And now, two others have been acquitted of all charges. One would think that State Attorney Marilyn Mosby would’ve learned her lesson after the first two trials….but NOOOOO.
For Mosby – the crux of her grandstanding with the entire Freddie Gray case hinged upon the actions of Officer Goodson.
Goodson was Mosby's best possible case for a guilty verdict in #FreddieGray death.

Well, if this case was make or break time, as Andrew Branca over at Legal Insurrection pointed out consistently throughout this particular bench trial – the prosecution didn’t get the memo. They made so many missteps its a wonder the judge didn’t summarily toss the case out of the courtroom!
In addition, prosecutors have been repeatedly found to have concealed exculpatory evidence from the defense, that the state’s medical examiner originally believed Gray’s death to have been an accident after testifying that she had always believed the death to be a homicide, and just yesterday it was revealed by the Baltimore Sheriffs Office that the “parallel” investigation purported conducted by that office on behalf of prosecutors never actually took place.
I don’t know about you folks, but concealing evidence during a trial, lying about investigations, an Assistant Sheriff Cogen now facing charges of perjury, and ticking the judge off is really NOT the way to win cases.

I’d say that Marilyn Mosby and her team will be future case lessons in Career Implosions 101.
When 2 separate juries acquit 2 different Baltimore Cops maybe it's because they actually are innocent. Crazy thought I know. #FreddieGray

Exactly. What will Marilyn Mosby do now? Who knows? Problem is…
“This is their Waterloo. This is their Gettysburg,” said attorney Warren A. Brown, a critic of Mosby’s who predicts she will face several challengers for reelection in two years. “She is virtually persona non grata in the white community and her support is waning in the black community and will continue to wane if she continues to lose these cases.”
This was Marilyn Mosby’s Waterloo. 3 cases that have gone nowhere. 3 cases that have dramatically highlighted how political grandstanding and catering to the Black Lives Matter crowd doesn’t matter when running up against Lady Justice.
For those who believe that Mosby may be able to pull her fat out of the fire and come out smelling like a rose…I don’t see how. If this is a verdict on her performance as an attorney and a prosecutor, I’d say the grade is an D and swiftly moving to F status.
For Officer Caesar Goodson, the relief that this case is over must be enormous.
For the rest of the officers awaiting trial, Marilyn Mosby’s 0-3 losing streak is likely generating confidence in the merits of their own cases. We shall see on July 7th when Lt. Brian Rice’s manslaughter trial starts.
Just to clarify: These last two were bench trials; not jury trials.
With a judge who has every reason to find the defendants guilty, too. He has been involved in hammering police corruption before, and fits the [box] the prosecution would like (back). He tried to see something in the prosecution’s work, but couldn’t drag them over the finish line.

Except, it wasn’t juries, and it was the same judge. Other than that, you’re spot on………
(Somehow I missed that yesterday. Oy.)
And, Nina, Mosby is 0-2-1, given the hung jury. 😉
I missed that part on the tweet as well.
Well, true. But I kinda like to think its still 0-3 given she couldn’t make first case strong enough to get to a guilty verdict. 😉
[…] Only one problem with that. There was extensive violence during the eight years of Obama. Ferguson, Baltimore, Ferguson again, and beyond. Oh wait, never mind. That violence was acceptable because Obama. Any […]
