Fight Night Is Finally On At #DemDebate

Fight! Fight! Fight! Finally, we’re getting an actual debate instead of a dumb kumbaya Democrat lovefest like the previous debates.

And apparently, this fight is Buttigieg versus everyone. It’s not because Mayor Pete Buttigieg is picking fights with people. It’s because others are picking fights with him. Elizabeth Warren decided to poke at Mayor Pete over his fundraising. Well, Mayor Pete finally gave Warren the one-two punch that has been sitting there for the last few debates. No one else was willing to fight Warren. But Buttigieg slapped Warren with what others – including Mark Cuban – have been saying. Warren herself is wealthy, and she transferred the money that she fundraised from rich donors for her Senate campaign, right over to her presidential campaign!

In an escalation of their simmering feud, Warren took aim at Buttigieg for holding a fundraiser in a wine cave in Napa, pointing out that although Buttigieg pledged to have open fundraisers, this one was closed.”

“You know, according to Forbes Magazine, I am literally the only person on this stage who is not a millionaire or a billionaire,” Buttigieg responded. “This is the problem with issuing purity tests you cannot yourself pass. If I pledged to never be in the company of a progressive, Democratic donor, I couldn’t be up here.”

“Senator, your net worth is 100 times mine,” Buttigieg continued, adding that it would not be wrong if someone donated the maximum legal amount of money to his campaign.”

“Would that pollute my campaign because it came from a wealthy person? No, I would be glad to have that support. We need the support from everybody who is committed to defeating Donald Trump,” he said.”

And just as this was about to become a real battle – and don’t we deserve a real fight on the debate stage, finally??? – Senator Amy Klobuchar decided to come in like an angry mom to scold everyone for fighting.

Aw, man, and it was just getting good.

But then Klobuchar decided to take a shot at Mayor Pete as well. Get the popcorn!

U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar took aim at South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg on his lack of experience. She accused the mayor of “denigrating” the experience of the senators on stage.”

“We should have someone heading up this ticket that has actually won and been able to show that they can gather the support that you talked about from moderate republicans and independents, as well as a fired-up democratic base,” Klobuchar said. “And not just done it once – I have done it three times.”

Buttigieg responded that he could bring together a coalition of voters: “Trying putting together a coalition to bring you back to office with 80% if the vote as a gay dude in Mike Pence’s Indiana.”

Referring to Buttigieg’s 2010 race for state treasurer, Klobuchar shot back, “If you had won in Indiana, that would be one thing. You tried and you lost by 20 points.”

I’m just sitting here and enjoying the spectacle of the fight – and the rumors that Klobuchar actually really doesn’t like Buttigieg. And also that this fight is definitely not going to resonate with middle America and those undecided Democrat voters.

But hey, at least this isn’t a massive pat-on-the-back-fest like it has been over the last several debates. It’s time that these candidates actually started fighting with each other. That’s why these are called “debates,” right?
