ESPN talk show host Tony Kornheiser and Huffington Post’s Howard Fineman had an interesting little confab the other day on Tony’s radio show.

Discussions concerning Paul Ryan as the next Speaker of the House aren’t complete without dragging some type of comparison into the equation. And no, I’m not talking about Ryan vs Boehner skill sets, nor am I talking about how Ryan might deal with Nancy “botox” Pelosi. Oh noooo. Instead, Howard took a different tack.

According to Howard, the Tea Party doesn’t understand the need for dictators. At which point Tony jumps the shark with a “did he REALLY just ask that??” question.

Fineman: “The House needs a dictatorial leader, or nothing will ever happen. And the Tea Party people understandably don’t like that. If the person in charge is a moderate who doesn’t agree with them politically.

“So, Paul Ryan has the kind of conservative chops, where, he can sort of try to unify the whole party. But, he’s going to be spending all his time trying to deal with these Tea Party. People.

“What he’s probably going to have to do, if in fact he gets in. Is stage some kind of fight with them and defeat them, or take away their power, and go after them. I don’t know if he’s got the guts to do that. I don’t know if he’s got the numbers to do it.”

Kornheiser: “Are they like ISIS trying to establish a Caliphate here?”

Fineman: “Yes! Yes! That’s a very good analogy! Without the violence obviously, but yes, they are a rejectionist front.”

Let me assure you, the above is a direct quote from the show. You can listen to the entire exchange here at the podcast titled “Stalking Aaron Sorkin” beginning at the 35.56 minute mark. So Fineman believes the Tea Party is a “rejectionist front” and as such, according to Tony, is the same thing ISIS Caliphate. Well guys, since you brought it up, lets compare the two shall we?

Which group runs around the country trying to slaughter  the Yazidis, solely because the Yazidi religion does not conform to their viewpoint and leaving many others trapped on a mountain? Ummm, yes, that would be ISIS.

Which group, frustrated by the business as usual mantra from Washington and the ever encroaching government into the lives of Americans, advocates for adherence to the Constitution and ensuring all citizens have a voice? Which group decided to band together and voice their opinion at numerous protests without violence or property damage? Noooo Tony not ISIS, look to the Tea Party for that one.

Which group marches on historical sites revered the world over for their historical and archeological significance and instead of safeguarding them, destroys them? Tony, if you and Howard picked ISIS for $500 Alex- you’re still in the game!

Does the Tea Party, when elections don’t go their way, retaliate by burning people alive, beheading Americans, executing prisoners with the use of bombs, kills boys because they dared to watch a soccer game, or raping and enslaving women and children? The answer is a resounding NO.

You know, back in August Curt Schilling got booted from ESPN for daring to “gasp!” compare Muslim extremists to Nazis. The folks at Twitchy are wondering…as are we.

Soooo, will ESPN give Tony the boot? Nahhh. You see, Tony is golfing buddies with a certain Duffer In Chief.

Tony and Howard, before class is dismissed, might I make a suggestion? If the two of you REALLY want to understand ISIS and its caliphate, why don’t you trot on over to Iraq or Syria and hang out with them for a while? If you survive the visit, you might, just might come to the realization that the only group that is truly a rejectionist caliphate…is ISIS, NOT the Tea Party.
