Equality has come in a small dose to Twitter, courtesy of Elon Musk (whose bio currently reads “Twitter Complaint Hotline Operator”). The blue-check playing field is being leveled, and this has journalists twisted into pretzels.
Under the previous rules, Twitter had become a caste system with the blue-check-haves lording it over the unverified-have-nots. Not to mention the entire apparatus was set up to continually ban people who dared disagree with the leftists in charge of Twitter. Well, those people are gone, and Elon Musk is looking to make the platform profitable, which means opening up revenue beyond ads. According to Musk, Twitter was losing $4 million A DAY. Like the blue checks cared – Twitter was supposed to be their personal playground where they could exert control via their status and have their egos stroked by millions of peasants. The thought of paying $8 a month for their blue check – and the opening up of the blue check to everyone willing to pay – has them furious. Especially those journalists who thought they controlled the truth, and got people banned who disagreed with them.
Elon Musk has their number.

Um, yes. A blue check was not supposed to be anything beyond a symbol that your identity was “verified.” It did not confer magical powers, and was not supposed to infer that anyone should trust this person. And what is a “credentialed journalist”? Seriously? Is it a journalism degree? I have one of those – am I now “credentialed”? Is it having a press pass? Is it having a paycheck from a news company? Because the “credential” is sure as hell NOT that blue checkmark, and Twitter is NOT the royal bestower of “credentials.”
How many times has Libs of TikTok been suspended off Twitter for merely posting other people’s publicly posted TikTok videos? Project Veritas and James O’Keefe are both currently banned off Twitter. The Babylon Bee, a PARODY site, was banned off Twitter for the sin of pointing out that Admiral Rachel Levine is a male. They were/are all verified accounts with that special blue checkmark. And yet the previous leadership of Twitter banned or suspended all of them. What about the New York Post being locked out for publishing the Hunter Biden laptop story right before the 2020 election? Surely, the Post counts as a “credentialed journalist” outfit? Hmmmm, MAYBE this isn’t about credentials. MAYBE this is about journalists losing what they see as their status within the caste system, and Elon Musk is smashing it to pieces with Twitter Blue.
Speaking of journalists losing their status, miraculously, the ones who call themselves “fact-checkers” decided to do their jobs today after a near-two-year-long nap. Why, I WONDER WHY.

Even Twitter, via the Birdwatch program, was fact-checking Joe Biden.
That kind of fact-checking never happened to Joe Biden under the previous management – but it IS happening with Elon Musk in charge.
No wonder the “journalists” hate Elon Musk. They might actually have to do their jobs now.

Meh. The idea was that you could trust them to some degree because they were actually this person. That engenders more trust than someone anonymous – in the normal course of human interactions. But it was a secondary element, and didn’t mean you should therefore give them the keys to your kingdom.

Because they’ve always planned to 25th the guy right after January 20th, 2023. This wasn’t some supposed epiphany they’ve had. It’s all part of the plan to get someone pliable (and not so obviously brain-damaged) as their front man and get 2 full terms from them after slightly less than half of this term.
