Alexandria Ocasio Cortez Really Hates Christians

If you’re a Christian who believes that abortion is immoral, then Alexandria Ocasio Cortez thinks you should just shut up.

As is her wont, AOC took to social media to mock people of faith who believe that abortion is taking a life. Notice how she sneers and uses air quotes to ridicule them. And then accuses “fundamentalist Christians” of wanting to establish a theocracy.

Oh, where to start to dismantle this tantrum?

Ocasio Cortez Thinks Christians are Imposing Beliefs

She’s engaging in the old anti-Catholic saw that pro-abortionists love to trot out: Keep your rosaries off my ovaries! She then extends it to “fundamentalist” Christians, of whom I’m sure she has little knowledge. Plus, there are many Christians who don’t see themselves as “fundamentalists” who oppose abortion.

I get it though. Sneering at pro-life Christians as “fundamentalists” bring to mind images of backwards Southern snake-handlers. That’s what she wants you to think pro-life Christians are.

But what she’s trying to argue here is that because her personal beliefs don’t prohibit abortion, then she shouldn’t have to obey laws that do. Well, Toots, that’s not how it works.

Tenor.com.

In 1989, two Native Americans were fired from a private drug rehabilitation organization because they ingested peyote. Peyote, they argued, was part of a sacrament of their Native American Church, and practicing their religion was their First Amendment right. Therefore, they should be excused from obeying the laws of the State of Oregon, and should receive unemployment benefits.

Wrong, wrote Justice Antonin Scalia after the case made its way to the Supreme Court. Scalia opined:

“Respondents urge us to hold, quite simply, that when otherwise prohibitable conduct is accompanied by religious convictions, not only the convictions but the conduct itself must be free from governmental regulation. We have never held that, and decline to do so now.”

I know of no religious faith — Christian or otherwise — that compels abortion. However, if a law either prohibits or limits abortion, then people of all religious faiths must obey that law, whether their faith permits abortion or not. And if Roe v. Wade is overturned, as is expected, then the people of the fifty states will decide their laws. No religious body will make those decisions.

AOC’s Ignorance of Other Beliefs

As for her “brothers and sisters of the Jewish faith” (are they the same people whom her fellow Squad members Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar would prefer didn’t exist? But I digress) — does Ocasio Cortez not know that there are pro-life Jews?

Take for example, the Jewish Pro-Life Foundation, which has existed since 2006. Their information card, which is designed to rebut pro-abortion Jews (and the ignorant, like AOC), reads, in part:

“Judaism is the Original Pro-Life Religion, the first religion in human history to ban child sacrifice and to sanctify human life from conception.”

The information also includes this:

“Abortion was weaponized against Jews in the Holocaust in pursuit of the Final Solution. Legal slaughter of sub-human parasites, as we were deemed, codified systemic racism and genocide.”

That’s strong stuff, indeed.

But it’s not just religious people who oppose abortion. There’s also a “Secular Pro-Life” organization for atheists and agnostics who see abortion for what it is: the killing of an unborn baby. Their website reads:

“You don’t have to be religious to have a problem with killing humans. We welcome pro-life activists, closeted pro-lifers, people on the fence, and anyone interested in exploring the secular arguments against abortion.”

Their secular case against abortion includes these truths:

1. The human zygote, embryo, and fetus are all human organisms; they are early developmental stages of a human’s life cycle.
2. All human organisms are morally relevant.
3. It’s generally immoral to kill humans.
4. Bodily rights aren’t enough to justify elective abortion.

Not a Bible verse in those arguments, is there?

As for the Faith of Ocasio Cortez. . .

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez says she’s Roman Catholic. And as we know, the Roman Catholic church has been a powerful voice against abortion ever since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision.

But AOC is apparently one of those “Catholics” who wants her fellow parishioners to leave their abortion beliefs at the church door. Yet she has no problem trotting out social justice Catholicism on issues such as health care, climate change, and prison reform.

She’s no Sen. Joe Manchin, a Catholic Democrat who actually walks the walk when it comes to abortion. Manchin recently joined Republicans in blocking abortion rights legislation.

I wonder if she really knows her Catholic theology? Or if she’s ever cracked open her Catechism or her Bible? I rather doubt it. AOC’s religion is Progressivism, not Catholic Christianity.

Alexandria Ocasio Cortez once again exposed herself in that video tirade for what she is: a lightweight member of Congress whose biggest achievement has been in using social media to promote herself. What she’s not, however, is a serious legislator who understands the Constitution and who defends the religious liberties of all.

I sure hope that Sandy Ocasio-Cortez and her fiancee decide not to have children.

I am a Catholic (Actually Catholic, not one of those “Raised Catholic”, which is a code-word for “I actually follow NONE of the practices of the faith, and ridicule those who do as ignorant”). Those who, like Joy Behar, were “raised Catholic” generally have a child’s-eye view of Catholic doctrine and theology.

Yeah, life is to be protected. Wehn I was younger, I fell under the spell of the pro-abortion folks. Loudly proclaimed how I saw nothing wrong with it.

Then, I had children. And, I was never able to see the situation the same way.

    • Hate_me says:

I am among those “Raised Catholic” you mention. I’ve fallen far from the church – there are just certain aspects I cannot accept.

However, I will be the first on the line against anyone who should tell a devout Catholic they don’t have the right to their devotion.

I have no religious reasons for my stance, yet I cannot see abortion as anything but the murder of the most innocent of human life.

“Raised Catholic”, which is a code-word for “I actually follow NONE of the practices of the faith, and ridicule those who do as ignorant” In the case of occasional cortex, and those like her, you’re spot on Linda, but there are plenty of us others, who left the church due to other issues, like the covering up of priests molesting children, wholesale changes to the religion that have no basis in the bible (female priests, etc), or the current pope who is far more socialist / fascist than Catholic.. (Bring back Der Panzer Pope!)
But as Hate_Me states, I will be in the front line to defend the rights of devout believers to their beliefs.. (and yes, I am 100% against abortion)

    • Robin H says:

Linda, I had the same journey as you. As a young adult I really didn’t think much about it, thought it was up to them to decide. When I was pregnant with my first child, the first time I felt him move it was such a revelation to me. I rethought my stance and now I’m against abortions.
