The news of yet another chemical attack in Syria just a few days ago horrified the world. The photos and videos of the innocents in Douma injured and killed is unimaginable in its scope of evil. This type of mass murder is just as evil as the Holocaust and those who inflicted this kind of horrific pain must be stopped.
Tonight, President Trump announced that the United States is doing precisely that.
“A short time ago, I ordered the United States Armed Forces to launch precision strikes on targets associated with the chemical weapons capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad,” Trump said. “A combined operation with the armed forces of France and the United Kingdom is now underway.”
Trump said that the massacre last weekend in Syria “was a significant escalation in a pattern of chemical weapons use by that very terrible regime.”
“The evil and the despicable attack left mothers and fathers, infants and children thrashing in pain and gasping for air/ These are not the actions of a man,” Trump said, referring to Assad. “They are crimes of a monster instead.”
Iran, who has likely enabled Syria and Russia who tried to blame Britain for this atrocity, didn’t escape the President’s scathing anger.
“To Iran and to Russia I ask, what kind of a nation wants to be associated with the mass murder of innocent men, women and children? The nations of the world can be judged by the friends they keep. No nation can succeed in the long run by promoting rogue states, brutal tyrants, and murderous dictators,” Trump said.
“In 2013, [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin and his government promised the world that they would guarantee the elimination of Syria’s chemical weapons,” he continued. “Assad’s recent attack and today’s response are the direct result of Russia’s failure to keep that promise. Russia must decide if it will continue down this dark path or if it will join with civilized nations as a force for stability and peace. Hopefully, someday we’ll get along with Russia and maybe even Iran. But maybe not.”
Below is the President’s entire statement.
A strong, forceful statement stating bluntly that these kinds of atrocities will not stand.
“Righteous power against brutality”. That’s well said.

President Trump specifically named France and Great Britain as allies in this effort. Which is interesting considering that Russia tried to blame Britain for the chemical attacks.

I wonder what Russia has to say for itself now? Vlad, over to you.
Meanwhile, Syria’s air defense is responding.

Something to consider.
In keeping silent about evil, in burying it so deep within us that no sign of it appears on the surface, we are implanting it, and it will rise up a thousandfold in the future. When we neither punish nor reproach evildoers, we are not simply protecting their trivial old age, we are thereby ripping the foundations of justice from beneath new generations.— Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn,
Tonight, evil is being addressed so that innocence and peace can flourish.
“… Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me….”
Yes, exactly
The photos and videos of the innocents in Douma injured and killed is unimaginable in its scope of evil.
Unimaginable? Not really. You need to read more history. You also need to be more skeptical of ‘news’ that comes out of that region, especially when there’s propaganda value to be had of it.
Claims have been made about this latest attack that the photos of the hospital full of these “unfortunates” are from a different hospital entirely (not even in that part of Syria).
I have yet to see anyone lay out convincing any real evidence.
That disturbs me. And it should disturb you, since you’ve otherwise demonstrated a decent skepticism of our intel agencies.
And, btw, neither innocence nor peace will flourish in that region into the foreseeable future.
