Sarah Palin, as a early Trump supporter, has decided to jump into the fray and set her sights on Speaker Paul Ryan. Apparently, free thought and honest opinion will not be tolerated in the New Trump Order. Because Ryan didn’t automatically jump onto the Trump Train, expressed his misgivings publicly, and put the burden of party unity where it belongs – in Donald Trump’s court – Sarah Palin has decided that Speaker Ryan needs to go.

“I think Paul Ryan is soon to be ‘Cantored,’ as in Eric Cantor,” Palin said, referring to the former Republican House majority leader who was ousted in a shocking upset in 2014 when challenger Dave Brat ran to his right in a Virginia primary.

“His political career is over but for a miracle because he has so disrespected the will of the people, and as the leader of the GOP, the convention, certainly he is to remain neutral, and for him to already come out and say who he will not support is not a wise decision of his,” Palin continued.

And just who is this Paul Nehlen, anyway? According to his campaign website, he is a businessman with no prior political experience. And while I have no problem with a lack of political experience when running for a Congressional seat, I doubt that Palin would be singing his praises quite so loudly if he wasn’t a Trump supporter.

And any legitimate criticism he might have had of Paul Ryan is now going to get overshadowed by the long shadow Trump is going to cast over state and Congressional elections.

So just because Ryan was honest about how he felt, Palin offered her support to his primary opponent. And Nehlen is thrilled.

What happens if, after the reportedly scheduled Thursday meeting between Ryan, Trump, and Reince Priebus, the speaker says that he’s willing to support the presumptive nominee? Will Palin still be doing “whatever” she can to help primary him? I kind of doubt it.

For what it’s worth, Ryan currently has a strong approval rating within his home state, despite what one non-scientific outlier poll has to say.

Could things change? Absolutely. Ryan could decide to support Trump. Ryan could also withhold his support, and Trump would go ballistic. The primary is still three months away (it will be held on August 9th), and in politics, three months is a lifetime. And even Sarah Palin herself admits that her support might not be all it’s cracked up to be.

The Ryan/Nehlen primary decision is in the hands of the voters of Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District. I highly doubt Sarah Palin’s opinion is going to affect it much.
