Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell has been in a hospital in the Washington, D.C. area since being found unconscious in his home there on June 14, 2026. He has been a Senator since 1985. That is 41 plus years. According to reports, he is not expected to return to the Senate until after his term ends in January 2027. Does this remind anyone else of the late Senator Dianne Feinstein? We’ll come back to that later.
Here are some of the details of this latest illness from the Washington Post:
McConnell was admitted to the hospital on the morning of June 14, according to a statement from his office that said that he was “receiving excellent care.”
EMS dispatch audio from the morning of June 14 suggests that emergency medical personnel were sent to McConnell’s home to attend to an unconscious person in cardiac arrest.
According to the dispatch audio, a call went out at 8:36 a.m. for an “unconscious” person at McConnell’s address, and an ambulance was sent with an advanced life support crew. Six minutes later a medic radioed that CPR was “in progress.” At 8:43 a.m., a dispatcher relayed the emergency as a “cardiac arrest.” McConnell is named nowhere in the recording, though the address is his.
The next day, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-South Dakota) and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyoming) — the top two Senate Republicans — told reporters that they had spoken to McConnell.
If Thune and Barrasso told ME that I was ALIVE, I would ask for a complete work up from at least two doctors before I thought about believing them. I don’t know which one is more unbelievable – Thune or Barrasso. Tomato tomahto. Here is more:
McConnell’s office has been quiet on his condition in the weeks since and has not provided additional information on his treatment or the cause for his hospitalization.
On June 22, eight days after McConnell was hospitalized, his office said that he wouldn’t be voting that week “as he continues his recovery.”
Thune, on the same day, told reporters that he spoke with McConnell “toward the end of last week” and that McConnell “sounded good and was anxious to get back.”
A July 2 statement from McConnell’s office provided little new information but said he was still in the hospital.
“The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session,” his office said.
His office has not provided additional information since and did not respond to a request for comment on Monday.
The other people I wouldn’t believe would be his staff. Mitch McConnell and his wife, Elaine Chao, are both kind slippery. As a matter of fact, Miss Chao took off for China right after Mr. McConnell became ill. This is from Breitbart:
Former U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao traveled to Beijing just three days after her husband, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), was rushed to the hospital following an apparent heart attack that required CPR.
Chao, a former transportation secretary, met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on June 17. There are images published by Chinese outlets showing the two seated together during talks ostensibly focused on relations between Washington and Beijing.
In his meeting with Chao, Chinese Vice President Han Zheng called for China and the United States to take more steps to improve ties, saying both sides should work together to move the relationship forward. He said the two countries should follow through on the consensus reached by their leaders to build a more constructive and stable U.S.-China relationship.
The shipping company Foremost Group, started by Chao’s father, was overseen by Angela Chao. Angela Chao died at 50 in 2024 after she reversed her car into a lake in Texas. Elaine Chao does not hold an ownership stake in Foremost Group. Some, me included, find it odd that a woman would leave her elderly and ill husband and fly to China.
Senator McConnell withdrew from Republican leadership and is not running for reelection in Kentucky. This X post is from a May Senate hearing with Secretary of War Hegseth and is pitiful:
Senator Mitch McConnell has yet another embarrassing glitch during the Hegseth hearings.
Mitch doesn’t even know what planet he is on anymore.
He is somebody’s puppet.
We need term limits.
Enough is enough. pic.twitter.com/aXTkCguch2

Mitch McConnell also had the flu and fell and hit his head at the Marriott. His glitching has become the stuff of memes and legends. The glitching reminds us of the late Senator Dianne Feinstein who had severe Shingles in May, 2023. She had to be told to just say “Aye” to vote:
The Power of Attorney mentioned in this video was in regard to her late husband’s estate. She returned to the Senate in a wheelchair. She died in September, 2023.
Back to Senator McConnell, Victory Girls has heard the rumors. We don’t deal in that kind of gossip. We wish McConnell a long and happy retirement. If something should happen to him before August 3, the Governor does not simply appoint a new Senator. There is a special election.
It would behoove someone in Republican leadership to come up with a plan and make an announcement. Stop the rumors. OR, admit they are true.

I wish Mitch a fully and speedy recovery. As a private citizen! He needs to resign immediately, and allow for a successor that will actually attend and vote. This being absent for months on end needs tk stop. None of us would keep our jobs if we just disappeared for months on end, no matter how good ths reason. The margin in the senate is far too thin to lose a vote for the rest of the year.
Part of the problem is that the Governor of Kentucky has made it clear that he wouldn’t necessarily appoint a Republican to replace McConnell but a Democrat.
If that were to happen, then the governor should be impeached, and the Senate should do their job and refuse to seat the illegally chosen member..
Yeah, I know im expecting a lot from the self-serving rinos… but a guy can dream cant he?
