Biden Gets Award From LGBTQ Group, Gives Recycled Speech

It’s always nice for Joe Biden to pop his head up occasionally and remind everyone that we don’t miss him.

But it’s clear that old Joe misses the spotlight, and the applause, and the presidency. Yesterday evening, he accepted an award for his championing of LGBTQ rights, and it was obvious that Biden was basking in the attention.

The former president’s comments came as he accepted an award from the Victory Institute, an organization that supports L.G.B.T.Q. people in public office, and as President Trump has made it harder for transgender people to participate in public life. Mr. Biden spoke at the group’s annual conference, a gathering of several hundred L.G.B.T.Q. elected officials and community leaders in Washington.

The organization described Mr. Biden as assembling “the most L.G.B.T.Q.+ inclusive administration in U.S. history.” About 15 percent of Mr. Biden’s appointees identified as L.G.B.T.Q., according to the Victory Institute.

You have to love the above phrasing by the New York Times, saying that President Trump “has made it harder for transgender people to participate in public life.” Bias much?

Biden, naturally, was not going to pass up the opportunity to do three of his favorite things – tell tales about his father, invoke the name of his favorite child, and rip on Donald Trump. His acceptance speech – aided by teleprompter, naturally – was just around 16 minutes long. It only took me the first few seconds to be reminded how predictable and pathetic Biden speeches generally are – he opened with a favorite line when given the adulation that he feels entitled to: “I’m not goin’ home!”

The speech contained the typical Biden hallmarks – there were the stories where dear old Dad got in his face and said “Joey…” before imparting some kind of saying. There was the slurring of words.

Biden said “not a joke” at least twice in 16 minutes. There was a lot of repeating words, which he often used as a rhetorical device, but now makes him sound even more forgetful and old. Oh, and there were the volume changes, where he went from whisper-speak to ANGRY OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUDS. And if you watch the whole video, someone was having to adjust the microphone volume because there are a few instances where Biden’s yelling caused some feedback in the sound system.

Oh, and yes, Joe had to mention his son Beau. It’s not a true Biden speech unless Saint Beau can be invoked. This time, Beau Biden came up in the context of openly transgender Representative Tim/Sarah McBride, who worked for Beau Biden’s attorney general campaigns in 2006 and 2010.

This award was a “lifetime achievement award” marking Biden’s transgender rights advocacy and his “inclusive” administration. He even bragged on hiring Karine Jean-Pierre, who was also in the audience. This explains a lot about how KJP saw herself within the administration – she was, quite literally, a trophy hire so Joe Biden would win awards like this. Even the mainstream media has had to admit that Karine Jean-Pierre genuinely sucked at her job, even though they won’t admit to how she got the job in the first place.

But let’s not forget Biden’s favorite part of the speech – the part where he complains about Donald Trump being president. Hey, Joe? YOU made that happen.

“Folks, Donald Trump and his Republicans are trying to derail and distort our fight for equality. They’re trying to turn it into something scary, something sinister,” Biden said as he accepted a lifetime achievement award from the LGBTQ+ Victory Institute, a group that trains and funds candidates. “There is nothing more American than the notion of equality. Nothing, nothing, nothing.”

That call to action received a predictably warm reception from LGBTQ donors, activists, and candidates gathered for three days of strategy sessions, many of whom know well Biden’s track record on their issues. Biden famously got ahead of then-President Barack Obama in voicing support for same-sex marriage in 2012. (“I got myself in a bit of trouble. But good trouble,” Biden joked Friday.) And as President, Biden signed the repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act with the Respect for Marriage Act three years ago next week.

“Finally, through the hard work, faith, counsel, sheer grit from folks like you in this room and so many who came before you … the momentous battle was finally won,” Biden said. “Finally, finally, finally.”

But Biden acknowledged that the current climate is one that can drive exhaustion and pessimism. In less than a year, the Trump Administration has quickly instituted a wide range of anti-trans policies, and cut funding for various programs benefiting LGBTQ communities. On Monday, the U.S. government skipped marking World AIDS Day for the first time in 37 years. “The challenges ahead can feel daunting, particularly in the face of everything we’ve seen coming out of this reactionary White House,” Biden said.

Joe Biden still doesn’t understand that his policies helped pave the way for Donald Trump to walk back into the White House. But why should he have to understand? He’s getting a major award! He gave the same old speech he always gave! He got to mention Beau! Everyone clapped for him!

Just remember that Jill, Hunter, the Politburo, and the media all insisted that this man was “sharp as a tack,” and could have served until 2028. Given what we know about Biden’s health that they declined to disclose, combined with speeches like this, and no reasonable person would take that bet.

Trans folk can be in public life as much as they want. BUT not in women’s sports, not in women’s locker rooms and restrooms, not in women’s prisons, and not in spaces where women are avoiding men such as single sex shelters.
