Mayor Of Dearborn To Resident: Get Out Of My City

The Mayor of Dearborn, Michigan has decided that anyone questioning city or county decisions when it pertains to naming streets after a terrorist supporter needs to be kicked out of town.

It all started with this just one day after the 24th Anniversary of 9/11.

The city of Dearborn on Monday honored the Lebanese-born Siblani, a prominent anti-Israel activist who founded the Arab American News outlet, with a plaque bearing his name at the intersection of Warren Avenue and Chase Road, a location home to Middle Eastern-style bakeries, a hookah lounge, and the Islamic Center of Detroit. Video from the ceremony posted on the city’s Instagram account shows Siblani and supporters unveiling an honorary street sign with his name emblazoned across.

It wouldn’t be so bad, if it weren’t for the fact that Siblani is virulently anti-Israel, and is very much in support of Hamas and Hezbollah.

Siblani’s radical track record in Dearborn—a heavily Muslim community known for being a hotbed of anti-Israel sentiment—includes numerous public appearances in which he praised Palestinian jihadi groups as “heroes,” lauded the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, and threatened to send Israeli Jews “back to Poland.”

During a September 2024 rally in Dearborn, when Israel was locked in a fierce fight against Hezbollah terrorists on its northern border, Siblani told a crowd chanting “death to Israel” that the terror group will “take care of the job” by eradicating the Jewish state, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), which monitors radical activity.

“We are the Arabs who are going to lift Palestinians all the way to victory, whether we are in Michigan and whether we are in Jenin,” he said in remarks captured by MEMRI. “Believe me, everyone should fight within his means. They will fight with stones, others will fight with guns, others will fight with planes, drones, and rockets, others will fight with their voices, and others will fight with their hands and say: ‘Free, free Palestine!'”

Siblani has a very long track record of this kind of hateful and violent rhetoric. Yet here we have Democrats from the city to county to state level (yes, I’m looking at you Gretchen), normalizing this rhetoric and propping up someone who puts more stock in supporting terrorists than he does for America.

Well, at least one resident of Dearborn isn’t a fan of this move to name two streets after Osama Siblani. He spoke at the Dearborn City Council meeting.

Did you catch that? The MAYOR of Dearborn told one of his constituents to ‘get out of my city.’

Mayor Hammoud responded with remarks that shocked many in attendance. “The best suggestion I have for you is to not drive on Warren Avenue or to close your eyes while you’re doing it. His name is up there and I spoke at a ceremony celebrating it because he’s done a lot for this community,” Hammoud said.

He went further, accusing Barham of being “a bigot, and you are racist, and you’re an Islamophobe,” before declaring: “Although you live here, I want you to know as mayor, you are not welcome here. And the day you move out of the city will be the day that I launch a parade celebrating the fact that you moved out of this city.”

There you have it. Unbelievably, a resident of Dearborn where the police are pushing an Arabic patch for their uniform, cannot bring up Siblani’s well-known track record without A. being accused of racism and bigotry and B. being told he needs to leave town and a party will be thrown in celebration.

Yes, the irony is miles deep and wide here.

What’s even worse is that the Mayor is not only telling Ted Barham his exercise of free speech must be shut down, he’s also telling an American to leave because he engaged in wrong-speak.

I bet he wished he could’ve done the same when President Trump came through during his campaign.

The Mayor of Dearborn is completely in the wrong here. You may not like what someone has to say at a public meeting, but in this country, you cannot shut them down nor essentially order them to leave town because of words you dislike.

In Dearborn, I guess freedom of speech comes with limits imposed by the Mayor.
