We are less than a month into the Trump presidency and are watching closely as he slashes away at the deep state.
Many of us are cheering this on. The Deep State is indeed dying (not even a slow and painful death) in the daylight and it is delicious.
Yet some, like Chauncey DeVega of Salon, will argue that we were “sleep marched” into fascism. All of the “political destruction”, oh my!
This is by design and one of the central features of the ‘shock and awe’ strategy that Trump and his allies have been planning for years, as detailed in Project 2025 and Agenda 47, to undermine American democracy and replace it with a form of autocracy if not outright authoritarianism. This strategy is being rapidly enacted through such actions as the almost 100 executive orders that include voiding the 14th Amendment, declaring a national emergency for Trump’s mass deportation plan, gutting the Department of Justice, seemingly as part of a plan to get revenge on his personal “enemies,” firing inspectors generals en masse, reversing 60 years of progress in civil and human rights and freezing federal loans and grants.”-Chauncey DeVega, Salon
Even Rolling Stone called Trump’s strategy of dismantling the deep state, “shock and awe”. These first few days were “uniquely depraved”, they say.
I would argue that encouraging a girl to cut off healthy mammary tissue or advocating for a boy to slice off his penis after rounds of hormones and chemicals are pumped into their bodies, with taxpayer money funding this butchery in our country and in other foreign countries is “uniquely depraved”. (Luckily kids never change their minds when they get older.) I would also argue snuffing out a heartbeat because someone “is just not feeling it” and seeing the government call this a “healthcare priority” earmarking Americans’ taxpayer dollars to fund someone else’s irresponsibility is “uniquely depraved”. But moving right along here, we who are against this daftness are not advocating for the slashing of deep state spending…we’re encouraging the march right into fascism. Sure.
This “shock and awe” has even left the journalists silent. (It’s a Christmas miracle, if you ask me).
But journalistic attention… is not in practice an infinite resource, and so the more of it that Trump seeks, the less of it there is to go around; in other words, if he benefits from ruling our attention, so he does from dividing it.”-Jon Allsop, The Columbia Journalism Review
One word: ColumbiUHHH-duhh. This has left journalists “flummoxed” (snort) by the faaaaaaascism. I can see the journos now:
My God, Trump likened himself to Al Capone on Truth Social! He said “FAFO” and what are we, the purveyors of truth (double snort), going to tell the American people? He’s having fun at their expense! The poor, ignorant MAGA-sheep cannot see how we got to this utter fascism. They don’t read books like us- the morally and intellectually superior, big government, deep state Dems! Shock and awe!
They don’t have brains to think for themselves so, of course, they are flummoxed. This is what happens when you are taught to recite a script, get paid insane amounts of money to do it and repeat it verbatim for years on end.
This is not my beautiful house. This is not my beautiful wife. This is not my President. This is not my country. (Go grab a Kleenex.) How did we get here?
…we got here because people don’t read history books anymore, which led to collective amnesia about reality. They like their politics and professional wrestling reality TV show, featuring supervillains behaving badly. They won’t like it when their neighbors start disappearing.”-Chauncey DeVega, Salon
Let’s backtrack for but a moment here. History books? Who wants to re-write them? Who gets government funding to re-write them? Who wants certain inconvenient truths expelled from these books because they think kids can’t handle it or something? To read a history book, it’s imperative that Americans know HOW to read. With that, I say this: Who shuttered schools? Who revamped curriculum? Who called himself “The Education President”? How far have our educational standards as a nation fallen? Who lowered standards and put ideology ahead of academics and performance in our educational circles? The Deep State and all associated entities did this. So, please, take a seat on the history-book-reading, jackasses.
CAUTION: This may trigger the trolls. This proposal from American Majority CEO, Ned Ryun may be the next nail in the coffin for the “sleep march into fascism”:
Per Mr. Ryun, there needs to be a presidential commission composed wholly of members of the public to investigate abuses of power and all instances of the weaponization of government by those who were—and perhaps still are—entrusted with the police and surveillance powers of the state.”-Thaddeus G. McCotter, American Greatness
Can you imagine? They are flat-out losing it with DOGE and the “Unconstitutional Grabs”. (Notice how the left looooves the Constitution now?) Between the DRP, and cash flows at The Treasury and USAID, the exposure of wasteful spending by The Bureaucracy was enough “shock and awe” to the American system.
The permanent bureaucracy had long operated on a simple assumption: presidents come and go, but they remain. That assumption now lay shattered, replaced by a new reality: when preparation meets presidential determination, nothing is permanent.
They thought we’d slow down. They thought we’d get bogged down in process. They thought we’d play by their rules. Instead, we’re just getting started.”- Vice President, J.D. Vance
Let them.
Let them feel flummoxed. Let them feel sucker-punched. Let the dismantling of the deep state continue, piece by piece. None of us are sleep-stepping…in fact, we are wide awake. Bring on the “shock and awe” and come on over and sit with us while the deep state deep-sixes in a WWE-style smack-down. We’ve got wine and popcorn.

I think it’s more than that. Their false gods have been dragged into the light and their temples are being burned to the ground in front of them and there is nothing they can do about it. The protesters that would have been screaming about this are staying home because the checks to protest are no longer coming in. I hope that what we are seeing right now is just the beginning and it keeps going through Trump’s term and (God willing) Vance’s two terms.
Let them feel flummoxed. (selah)
