Nevada Governor Vetoes Popular Vote Bill

Nevada Governor Vetoes Popular Vote Bill

After the 2016 election, the cries to get rid of the electoral college from the left were numerous. However, getting the states to approve an amendment to abolish it seems nearly impossible.

So certain states decided to take the matter into their own hands and rig the electoral college votes themselves. Colorado, for example. It’s all in spite and loathing for Trump (though Colorado never seemed to consider what would happen if Trump won the popular vote in 2020 and the state voted for the Democrat candidate instead).

Well, Nevada passed a similar law in their legislature.

But in a twist, the governor of Nevada just vetoed that bill.

That would be the DEMOCRAT governor of Nevada, Steve Sisolak.

Well, there’s something you don’t see every day. A politician who thinks about the long-term consequences of a bill.

“After thoughtful deliberation, I have decided to veto Assembly Bill 186,” Sisolak said in a statement.”

“Once effective, the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact could diminish the role of smaller states like Nevada in national electoral contests and force Nevada’s electors to side with whoever wins the nationwide popular vote, rather than the candidate Nevadans choose.”

“I recognize that many of my fellow Nevadans may disagree on this point and I appreciate the legislature’s thoughtful consideration of this important issue,” he added.”

The legislation, approved by the state’s Senate last week, would add Nevada to the National Popular Vote interstate compact and pledge the state’s six Electoral College votes to the winner of the national popular vote.”

The move would effectively abolish the Electoral College, which is used to determine who wins the White House, and instead rely on the popular vote to determine the presidential winner.”

Fourteen states and the District of Columbia have passed legislation to join the pact, which will only take effect if a number of states holding the majority of the Electoral College’s 538 electoral votes join the agreement.”

Colorado, Delaware and New Mexico all approved laws to join the initiative this year, bringing the pact up to 189 electoral votes — 81 short of the 270 necessary for it to take effect.”

Good for Nevada. Your governor seems to actually understand that abolishing the electoral college means that California and New York chooses each president, not a state with a smaller population like Nevada. You might want to talk with your legislature, though. They seem kind of dumb.

    Oh noes.
Now the “progressive” New World Order useful idiots are going to have to continue screwing with 50 elections , instead of just one.
That’s gonna’ continue to cost ’em plenty with all the rent-seekers, barely English literate “businessmen” bundlers, and “uncharacteristically generous” lower 60% of the tax payers, in the money laundering trail!

Of course, with so many (unserious IMHO)Dem campaigns to “contribute” to, and with so much fungible “transfer” to “the party” available….
