Blogger Warner Todd Hudson, writing at Western Journalism, made this very interesting observation about last night’s Iowa caucus victory for Ted Cruz.
He wrote:
Ted Cruz’s caucus win was historic, as it marks the first time in American history a Hispanic candidate has won a presidential primary contest in any state. With the identity-politics the media purveys, why isn’t this being reported as a big, big deal? Why are no media outlets making banner headlines that a Hispanic just won a primary?
I became curious, so while eating my salad at Panera I searched the subject on Google. I found two, two! articles that mentioned this historic first for Latinos. One came from an opinion piece in the Des Moines Register, where Kathie Obradovich wrote: “Iowa made history Monday — at least twice. Republicans, turning out in record numbers, awarded their caucus win for the first time to a candidate with a Hispanic heritage, Sen. Ted Cruz.”
The other came from Fox News Latino, whose headline read: “Ted Cruz makes history, becomes first Hispanic to win Iowa caucus.”
Contrast that with the headlines generated by media outlets from ABC News to PBS to even MTV when Sonia Sotomayor became the first Hispanic named and confirmed to the Supreme Court in 2009.
Well, thought I. Maybe it’s because Ted Cruz is Latino only on his father’s side. His mother is Anglo.
Then there’s This Guy.
Whose parents are pictured below:
So that can’t be it, either.
So why isn’t the media throwing confetti when this minority Senator achieved another milestone for Hispanics?
It’s obvious: both Ted Cruz, and the third place winner in Iowa, Marco Rubio, are the wrong kind of Latinos. They’re Republican. They’re conservative. And they fly in the face of the very white Democratic candidates.
One person who did notice was Ann Coulter, who was happy to retweet this little racist nugget from a Twitter follower:
This nasty tweet compared Cuban-Americans Cruz and Rubio to the 1980 Mariel Boat lift, when thousands of Cubans fled to Miami, many of whom had criminal backgrounds and mental illness.
And of course Ann went full birther once again after the second place finish of her darling Donald Trump.
Trump is the leading GOP vote-getter tonight, among natural-born-American candidates.

Oh, Ann Coulter, now shamelessly representing the nativist fringe of the conservative movement. But over the years she’s held slobber-fests for candidates from Chris Christie to Mitt Romney and now Donald Trump — promoting her books all the while, of course. Politically she’s pimped herself out more than a hooker in a port town.
But I digress.
I wish to congratulate the first Latino winner of a national caucus or primary, Sen. Ted Cruz. I also wish to congratulate Sen. Marco Rubio, another Latino, who placed third. One of them is my favorite, but I would be more than thrilled to vote for either one as President.
“So why isn’t the media throwing confetti when this minority Senator achieved another milestone for Hispanics?”
Because this:

If Cruz had a “D” next to his name we’d be hearing about this for days and days. But to the Progs he’s not really Hispanic, just like Clarence Thomas isn’t black to them either. Anyone that doesn’t fit into their narrative of fairy tales simply doesn’t exist to them.
