TikTok: Where The Uglies Come Out To Boast Their Privilege

In the vast online wasteland of TikTok, lives a group of women who are starving for attention.

No. For once, we’re not talking the plastic, silicone Barbies with the outrageous Brazilian Butt Lifts this time around. Nor, are we talking about how boys can “mew” their way to a better jaw line. No, siree. We’re talking about the ladies who are proudly flaunting their “ugly privilege”. This is a real thing:

If you sat through the above video in its entirety, the host claimed this trend saw an uptick during COVID. It is a trend that continued and it’s gained more momentum-especially over the past few days. “Ugly” women are taking to TikTok, shouting from the rafters their “privilege”. They’ve never been cat-called. They’ve never been asked for their number. They’ve never had “unwanted” attention from (toxic) men. They are looked upon as the “more intelligent” of their pretty friends and colleagues. They’ve whipped out their children and now society is “done” with them, and Thank God. To them, being “ugly” is “kinda dope”.

When I say I have ‘ugly privilege,’ it’s not that I necessarily think that I am an ugly individual. What I mean by that is men, in general, don’t find me attractive. For the most part, men think I’m ugly and they leave me alone, and to me, that’s a privilege.”

…Says a woman named Sarah on TikTok.

Therein lies the mental illness. This woman is “so privileged” that no one pays attention to her that she posts a video of herself on a platform such as TikTok to talk about it so people can pay attention to her. She says she’s totally fine with not getting unsolicited attention from toxic men who cat-call at construction sites. This is a weird take, for sure. Is this sour grapes, a bizarre flex or is this display the flat-out narcissism our kids see on the regular on TikTok?

The desperation of Sarah on TikTok is palpable. I almost feel bad for her but I have to remember that she may be part of the woke mafia. What in the world gives it away? The ugly coke-bottle glasses they all love to wear and the use of the word “privilege”. I suppose, to a degree, she is right. She is a well-fed, white girl in the good, ol’ U.S. of A. talking by recording a video on her $1,000-dollar Smart phone about her “privilege”. Acknowledging it. Embracing it. Flaunting it, even. No one would ever venture to tell her that her makeup looks pretty because, she won’t wear any. No one will tell her that her eyebrows are “on fleek” because she flat-out refuses to pluck ’em. No one would ever ask her about her work out routine because she does not care to have one. She will get the job solely based on her brains, and her “brains” alone (snicker).

This reminds me of the old song from Jimmy Soul:

If you want to be happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
So for my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you”-Jimmy Soul

That is, (guys, listen up), if you don’t get berated for asking said girl who is “ugly privileged” for asking for her number.

This is the wasteland of born-in-China TikTok, ladies and gentlemen, oh sane people who still inhabit this land! One one hand, we have the celebrities who obviously have the capital to spend their days in the gym with personal trainers, have dietitians and nutritionists and chefs who arrange all of their meals, plastic surgeons on speed-dial and stylists who know exactly what the most flattering outfits are for their body type. On the flip side of the coin, we have this, “proudly ugly” aesthetic. The Dye your hair multiple colors and get the most horrific haircut that does nothing to frame any of your redeeming facial features (I promise, everyone has some) crowd. The Show up to Wal-Mart for a Hostess cupcake and Monster Energy drink run in your 3-weeks-since-washed sweatpants and your recycled KN95 mask, circa 2021 ladies. The ask for accommodations so you can “work from home” because you have “long COVID” (when you are actually just overweight and unhealthy or just “can’t even”). You are not one of the “beautiful people” nor do you ever want to be. You are privileged to be one of the ugly ones. You are obviously “more intelligent” than the poor schmuck who wakes up in the morning and at least tries to put themselves together.

The underlying message here to the mindless who actually pay attention to what anyone has to say on TikTok (read: teenagers and, sadly, some grown-ass adults)?

Don’t even try. Why bother? Make room on that airplane and calculate for weight balancing, OR ELSE! Give all of the drag queens your tweezers and make-up. Out with traditional norms of classic beauty. It’s oppressive or something.

Why? Because being ugly is a privilege. Show us your ugly, they say. It is an aesthetic that was on perfect display at the Paris Olympics. I have a funny feeling that we have not seen anything yet. Brace for the impact of the big, ugly stick of 2024. Oh, the privileged lives we lead!

Thanks, China. This is one creative way to take us out.
