Ukraine Soldiers Tell Russian Warship To Go “Eff” Yourself

It feels surreal being at CPAC 2022 listening to Conservative speakers talk about problems and solutions in the United States while the world is being reordered. Vladimir Putin, bully of Russia, has invaded Ukraine. Joe Biden, cowardly bully of The Swamp, tries to look in charge and competent during his very few waking hours. Xi of China and Putin had a confab in Beijing at the Genocide Olympics and decided to divide the world up between them. The Swamp Critters are cowering in their Georgetown and Dupont Circle condos. Meanwhile, 13 average Ukraine G.I.’s showed the world how it is done.

Ziimnyi Island, also know as Snake Island or Serpent Island, is off the coast of Ukraine in the Black Sea. It’s probably not considered a glamour post. But, because of its location, Snake Island is an important “get” for Russia. Here is how the Maritime Executive reported the battle for Snake Island:

The Russian Navy warships Moskva and Vasily Bykov bombarded the island with deck guns before sending Russian soldiers ashore to take control of the facility, according to Ukrainian media. 13 Ukrainian border guards were reportedly killed in the action.

“On our Zmiinyi Island, defending it to the last, all the border guards died heroically. But did not give up. All of them will be posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an address on Thursday night.

Ah, but these 13 heroes didn’t just die. Before they were killed in action, they performed an act worthy of Flight 93’s Todd Beamer and his “Let’s Roll”. They told the Russian Warships to go “eff” themselves. Here is the video:

This is how the Maritime Executive reported the 13 heroes:

In the opening day of its invasion of Ukraine, the Russian Navy captured Snake Island (Zmiinyi Island), a small border patrol outpost in the Black Sea about 70 nautical miles south of Odessa.

“After . . . shelling by the occupiers’ naval weapons and combat aircraft, the infrastructure on the island was destroyed. According to available information, Zmiiny Island [Snake Island] has been captured,” the State Border Guard Service said in a statement. “The enemy today repeatedly tried in vain to intimidate Ukrainian defenders on the island with demands to surrender. The border guards and [armed forces] bravely held the defense.”

“Bravely held the defense”? The heroes told the sailors manning the two Russian Warships to go “eff” themselves. The BBC reported:

“This is a Russian warship,” one voice says in the clip. “I propose you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and unnecessary victims. Otherwise you will be bombed”

According to the audio, which has not been independently verified, the Ukrainian soldiers can then be heard speaking amongst themselves agreeing “this is it”.

They then respond: “Russian warship, go to hell.”

According to Ukraine, those were the last words heard from the island before Russia began strikes.

Everything I know about insurgency, I learned from the movie “Red Dawn”. The high school kids of “Red Dawn” used their high school mascot as their rallying cry. “Wolverines!” I don’t know what made me think of this, but maybe we could show General Mark Milley “Red Dawn” so that he could learn from it.

Insurgents can completely destroy the morale of an invading military. Maybe the Russian Warship crews felt like big men when the fired their deck guns and killed the 13 Ukraine soldiers, but who were the better men?

Way back in World War II, General Anthony McAuliffe told the Germans “Nuts” when told to surrender:

In mid-December 1944, Allied forces were surprised by a massive German offensive through the Ardennes Forrest that created a “bulge” in the Allied lines. Caught in what would become known as the “Battle of the Bulge,” the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Armed Forces was holed up in Bastogne while German armored divisions encircled the town. Outnumbered, outgunned, and running out of food, ammunition, and medical supplies, the embattled assistant division commander, Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe, faced bleak prospects.

On December 22, the American troops were sent an ultimatum from the German forces outside of the town, demanding “the honorable surrender” of the town within two hours. General McAuliffe reply was brief and succinct:

“To the German Commander:

N U T S !

The American Commander”

General McAuliffe got reinforcements and lived to a ripe old age. But, whether you yell “Let’s Roll”, “Wolverines”, “NUTS” or “Go Fuck Yourself”, be an insurgent. Pray for Ukraine.
