I’ll admit it. I wasn’t sure Matt Gaetz was the right choice as Attorney General for a multitude of reasons. Trump’s new choice of Pam Bondi doesn’t have Democrats gleeful. Nope, they are nervous. Trump’s announcement of his choice gives you the start of an idea why.
I am proud to announce former Attorney General of the Great State of Florida, Pam Bondi, as our next Attorney General of the United States. Pam was a prosecutor for nearly 20 years, where she was very tough on Violent Criminals, and made the streets safe for Florida Families. Then, as Florida’s first female Attorney General, she worked to stop the trafficking of deadly drugs, and reduce the tragedy of Fentanyl Overdose Deaths, which have destroyed many families across our Country. She did such an incredible job, that I asked her to serve on our Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during my first Term — We saved many lives!
For too long, the partisan Department of Justice has been weaponized against me and other Republicans – Not anymore. Pam will refocus the DOJ to its intended purpose of fighting Crime, and Making America Safe Again. I have known Pam for many years — She is smart and tough, and is an AMERICA FIRST Fighter, who will do a terrific job as Attorney General!
What his announcement doesn’t say is that Pam Bondi was the first female attorney general elected in Florida. She served two terms before leaving office due to term limits. She also served as one of Trump’s impeachment attorneys and is a close friend of Lara Trump.
That said, this choice doesn’t have Democrats gleeful at how they’ll be able to trip this nominee up during the confirmation hearings. They were ready, willing, and able with Matt Gaetz. His firebrand record, the instigation of ousting Kevin McCarthy, and ethics issues regarding his private life were already rich fodder with the Democrats. The confirmation hearings would’ve been a circus on steroids. Quite honestly, it was a good thing that Gaetz withdrew his nomination.
He threw his support behind Pam Bondi.

That was a classy statement. And this is an overall good choice for Trump and bodes well for the confirmation hearing.
Bondi’s selection will be subject to Senate approval once she is formally nominated, but allies of the president-elect swiftly expressed relief at the pick.
As of Thursday evening, there was a broad feeling among those working on the president-elect’s transition that Bondi would have a much easier confirmation process than Gaetz, given her background as the attorney general of Florida and her relationships with those on Capitol Hill.
One person close to Trump called Bondi “a solid choice” and said they “feel much better about her chances.”
Even Glenn Reynolds points out that a friend notes this is not only a conventional pick with a stellar background, but it’s someone that Trump can fully trust. Which is a reason why I wasn’t sure of Matt Gaetz. He is such a firebrand that my concern was he’d burn down the house rather than make key strategic moves within the DOJ.
All of which is making Democrats VERY nervous.
As they point out on the panel discussion, Pam Bondi truly KNOWS how to do the job. This makes the Democrats VERY nervous because they won’t be able to run con jobs or snow her with made-up legalese.

The Democrats favorite narratives of immigration, transgender ideology, the opioid crisis, election integrity and ballot counting will get strategically wrecked by Pam Bondi. They can’t stand the idea of that. They’ll fight tooth and nail to stop her.

Pam Bondi is a strong woman with a significant track record as Florida’s Attorney General. Her work concerning the fentanyl crisis and illegal immigration are going to be key during the confirmation hearings. It’s going to be tough for Democrats to counter that, but you can darned well bet they’ll be working to find dirt, or they’ll make something up.

Scott says: My only concern with her is that Grahsm and other swamp repubs are happy about her.. hopefully that’s just due to comparison with Gaetz, but I want those critters nervous too..
