Woke: The term of hipsterness we’ve all either snickered at or rolled our eyes over. However, the dreadful cuteness of the “woke” label distracts from the insidious ideology of intersectionality and that its True Believers are after your children.
It’s not like we haven’t discussed this before. Ideologues look for soft targets, people with no firm ideology of their own, to proselytize. In the market place of ideas, adults expect to run up competing points of view and to compare and contrast the merits.
What we don’t expect is to send our kids to public school to learn the three “Rs” and have them subjected to pseudo-religious indoctrination.
Children, in other words, are being taught to think constantly about race, and to feel guilty if they are the wrong one. And, of course, if they resist, that merely proves the point. A boy who doesn’t think he is personally responsible for racism is merely reflecting “white fragility” which is a function of “white supremacy.” QED.
An aside: Welcome back Andrew Sullivan. There was much to disagree on in the past, but for years you wandered the desert as Sarah Palin’s cyber-gynecologist. It’s nice to see you recognize the mugging from the Left has pushed you back to reality.
Sullivan even admits he may have gotten one of his recent opinion pieces wrong.
Last week, I defended drag queens reading stories to kids in libraries. I don’t take back my words. Getting children interested in reading with costumed clowns strikes me as harmless. But when I was directed to the website of Drag Queen Story Hours, I found the following:

In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish, where dress up is real.However well-meant, this is indoctrination into an ideology, not campy encouragement for reading and fun.

And then there is the disturbing “social justice” response to gender-nonconforming boys and girls. Increasingly, girly boys and tomboys are being told that gender trumps sex, and if a boy is effeminate or bookish or freaked out by team sports, he may actually be a girl, and if a girl is rough and tumble, sporty, and plays with boys, she may actually be a boy. I don’t have children, but I sure worry about gay kids in this context. I remember being taunted by some other kids when I was young — they suggested that because I was mildly gender-nonconforming, I must be a girl. If my teachers and parents and doctors had adopted this new ideology, I might never have found the happiness of being gay and comfort in being male. How many gay kids, I wonder, are now being led into permanent physical damage or surgery that may be life-saving for many, but catastrophic for others, who come to realize they made a mistake. And what are gay adults doing to protect them? Nothing. Only a few ornery feminists, God bless them, are querying this.
Actually, if Sully looked beyond his own insular community, he would know that many people are alarmed by the push to chemically alter, or surgically mutilate, children in the name of transgenderism. Some have even lost their jobs for being not being 100% onboard with the “gender affirming” protocols. Such protocols being more politically based than what is in the patient’s best interest.

Milwaukee says: I contacted local US Representative about need for enabling Federal laws or regulations to facility decriminalizing school truancy. His staffers assured me that was a local matter. But this is how the racket world: the Fedrales collect income tax and file it back to states and communities for conforming behavior, as determined by the leftist in Federal bureaucracy. We need abolish the Department of Education. Have educational outcomes improved with them? No.
Milwaukee says: The argument for compulsory school attendance was totalitarian, dressed up in “the best interest of society”. Free public school education is a plank in the Communist Manifesto. Our schools, especially high schools, are modeled after Prussian schools. The same Prussia as gave us the Franco Prussian War and World Wars 1 and 2. In many communities the schools are clearly failures. We need to decriminalize school truancy.

Milwaukee says: Once an official from Sweden was touring the US and said something like ‘we don’t have anything like this in Sweden’ referring to poverty and crime in a particular neighborhood. The US official replied that we didn’t have that in Swedish neighborhoods here. Communities with lots of single parent households have crappy schools. Communities with many two parent households have good schools. Raise your hand if you are surprised.

Quite simply because they got their new privileges and affirmation of their perversion, and they don’t want to see further perversion. (It’s ironically similar to the protectionism in which businesses engage, to raise barriers of entry to small competitors.)

Heck, if he could look beyond his own gayness, he might see that (and why) some of us have been alarmed by the push to psychologically alter our kids into thinking homosexuality is good and sweet and right.
Yes, Virginia, there IS a slippery slope. And we are fast approaching the cultural cliff.
