Taxpayers Fund Study on Adult Human Females Who Want To Be Called Men

American taxpayers have helped fund roughly three-quarters of a million dollars in federal grants to the University of Alabama at Birmingham to study the vaginal health of women taking testosterone who identify as men. The grants began during the Biden administration, and the money is still flowing.

What makes this story remarkable isn’t that scientists are studying the effects of testosterone. It’s that they’re spending taxpayer dollars to document well-known biological changes while carefully avoiding the most obvious fact: the patients they’re studying are women.

Scientists have known for decades what high doses of testosterone do to a female body. It shuts down estrogen production. The vaginal tissue thins, dries out, and becomes fragile. Pain and higher infection risk follow.

This is not cutting-edge science. It is basic endocrinology. Yet federal grants keep flowing to study these exact effects in females while insisting on calling them men. The absurdity is that there is no mystery to solve. The biology is well established. What’s being funded isn’t a discovery. It’s simply another round of documenting what medicine already knows.

The Money

This wasn’t a one-off study.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) continues to receive federal grant money to support its study on improving the vaginal health of so-called transgender men.

One $316,000 National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant, which began in August 2024 and ends in July 2029, is going to Dr. Olivia Van Gerwen, an assistant professor in the UAB Division of Infectious Diseases.

According to the description, the grant will focus on the “vaginal health of transgender men (TGM).”

[…]

Federal records state that UAB has already received over $230,000 of the grant’s obligated funds.

Another grant, which reached maturity in October 2024, doled out nearly $440,000 in Health and Human Services (HHS) funds to study the “impact of testosterone use on the vaginal microbiota in transgender men.” – 1819 News

So basically, taxpayers are funding medical experiments on women. These are women who perhaps have a mental disorder that makes them believe they are men. When in reality, it’s probably just a hard time coming to terms with their sexuality.

Instead of actually helping them with this, doctors hand them high doses of testosterone, watch their female bodies break down, and then collect federal grants to study the damage.

That’s gross. And it looks a lot like medical malpractice.

What The Grants Say

The current grant focuses on the “vaginal health of transgender men.” It argues these patients are underserved and often avoid sexual health services because of discrimination and mistrust of the medical system.

UAB explains that women taking testosterone undergo significant physical changes and acknowledges it carries risks. Well, duh. Let us not forget that it’s not just physical changes, but some of these treatments could make mental health worse.

They also discuss continued pap smears and vaginal health checkups for these now-so-called men.

The Medical Money Machine

The medical industry has a financial interest in keeping this particular pipeline going. They created a whole new patient category out of healthy women who reject their sex, sold them lifelong testosterone and surgeries, and now collect federal grants to study the damage those drugs cause.

It is a self-feeding system. The more women they medicalize under the “transgender” label, the more clinic visits, hormones, and research money follow. This has nothing to do with treating menopause or actual medical need. It is a manufactured market.

This isn’t groundbreaking science. It’s a federally feedback loop. Healthy women are told they were born in the wrong body, prescribed hormones that predictably damage their bodies, and then universities collect taxpayer grans to study the damage.

How did we allow medicine to drift from “First, do no harm” to “First, follow the funding”?

As long as the grant includes studying “mental heath issues”, how about the noted propensity of transgender persons receiving powerful hormones as part of their “treatment” to engage in violent attacks, including mass murder?

A February 17, 2026, opinion in the New York Post, The Rise In Transgender Killers Proves That We Have A Major Mental Health Crisis Unfolding, discussed the issue.”First, do no harm” easily includes not proscribing treatments which reasonably foreseeably endanger others. Honest scientific research follows the facts. Politically correct “research” suppresses inconvenient findings.
