Rep. Ayanna Pressley just can’t quit the race-baiting. After her “modern-day lynchings” campaign collapsed under the weight of suicides and one Black-on-Black homicide, she’s pivoted to a new martyr: 18-year-old Nolan Wells. The Massachusetts progressive is now pushing the hashtag #BlackoutForNolan and declaring, “We’ll never have justice for Nolan Wells, for in a just world he’d still be alive. But there must be accountability.”
Let’s review the actual facts, not this radical activist’s fan fiction.
Nolan Wells went boating with three white friends over Independence Day weekend. He was dropped off at a party on an island, went missing for two days, and his body was found in shallow water. A grand jury—23 people, including five Black jurors, two Hispanic, two Native, one Asian, and one Pacific Islander—issued 132 subpoenas, heard from 43 witnesses, and unanimously concluded it was an accidental drowning. No foul play. Zero evidence of trauma or homicide. The family’s own hired forensic pathologist, a Black former D.C. chief medical examiner, agreed. The FBI, Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, and U.S. Coast Guard were involved. Still not enough for the race-industrial complex.
And now? Ayanna Pressley’s ass is showing.
When the hanging narrative flopped, she simply moved the goalposts to the next ambiguous Black death involving white people nearby. Never mind that the number-one killer of young Black males is other young Black males. Never mind that accidental drownings happen. The racist script requires a villain — most often white — and if the grand jury, the Coast Guard, and the family’s own pathologist refuse to cast one, Pressley will invent the role herself.
X users weren’t buying it.
One noted the diverse grand jury’s unanimous finding and pointed out the real statistics on Black youth violence. Another cut through the noise: “He died from drowning. Quit making every black death a political statement.”
But my favorite? This well-placed snark.
How can we hold the water accountable
Justice must be delivered to the lake
We can’t continue to allow bodies of water to kill our children

Pressley’s rhetoric isn’t just a lie — it’s also remarkably reckless. By insisting “we’ll never have justice” after every official process has spoken, she tells Black Americans that the system is permanently rigged against them, even when the evidence is overwhelming and the investigators are multi-racial. She and her other progressive buddies cheapen real historical lynchings, and stokes the very distrust she claims to fight.
And the money shot? She keeps the racism grievance machine humming, because a calm acceptance of facts doesn’t raise money or mobilize voters.
America has a real suicide crisis, a real crime crisis, and a real mental-health crisis. What it does not have is a secret white lynching wave or a conspiracy of lakes. Politicians who keep manufacturing racial terror out of thin air aren’t fighting for justice. They’re fighting for relevance—and they’re doing it on the graves of people who deserved better than to become props in the next stupid hashtag campaign.
