Teacher Unleashes Wrath On Student For Different Opinion

Some teachers (not all) are a special kind of crazy. Case in point, Minnesota high school social studies teacher, Dr. Heather Abrahamson.

Of course, she’s a DOCTOR. Just like Jill Biden. Anyhow, Heather went unhinged for all to see when her Becker High School student defended the actions of Jonathan Ross, the ICE Agent who shot Renee Good.

Abrahamson got within inches of the student’s face and yelled, interrupting the student who tried to make his case.

“Your job as a police officer is to de-escalate,” she said. Ultimately, The ICE Officer, Jonathan Ross, and Renee Good both had the same job-to get home to their families. As callous as this may sound, Renee Good did not care about doing this. She made the choice to block traffic, honk and dance to her horn and disregard orders. This was more than causing a raucous in the neighborhood. Good could have made her statement, yelled out a few profanities at ICE if she were so inclined to in the moment and left. She could have used some common sense here. If she drove off without aiming her vehicle at the ICE officer, she would have made it home to her child. This is the very point the student was attempting to argue in Ms. Abrahamson’s classroom.

Her job, as a teacher, would also be to deescalate tension in that classroom. But Abrahamson insisted that, because this student held a different opinion, that he was arguing with her and insisted that she “wasn’t going to argue with him”, although she was, in fact, arguing with him. The shouting continued and the student pointed out that just because Ms. or-DOCTOR-Abrahamson was yelling, it did not mean that she was winning the argument. In an exercise of pure maturity, Abrahamson quipped back at the teenager:

Yeah, just because you’re alive doesn’t mean you’re intelligent.”-Dr. Heather P. Abrahamson

Damn. Yes. A person who has been installed in a classroom to facilitate the knowledge of young minds basically insulted someone else’s child. Heather? Honey? Just because you call yourself DOCTOR (and probably demand others call you that, too) does not an intelligent woman make.

To illustrate this further, here are a few excepts from the fabulous DOCTOR’s dissertation. entitled: Essential Voices:
The Lived Experiences of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Individuals in a Rural Midwestern School
.

In addition to increased respect for human rights, Thornton (2002) argued that LGBTQ inclusive curriculum might also foster tolerance and understanding among students in school, and by extension, the larger society. He clarified that curricular changes do not require new courses, but instead “new subject matter within established courses such as United States history” (p. 181).”-Dr. Heather P. Abrahamson

Not wrong. No wonder kids don’t know their history these days. Moving on…

She indicated that LGBTQ inclusive curriculum in the social studies content might foster increased human rights, acceptance, and tolerance.”-Dr. Heather P. Abrahamson

Nothing says tolerance like this statement right here: “just because you’re alive doesn’t mean you’re intelligent”.

She then talks about her personal experiences at her “rural school”:

Because heteronormative structures are often present in school policies and practices, they often dominate the day-to-day interactions of teachers and students. Notable ways that heteronormativity is maintained include dress codes, gender restrictive bathrooms and locker rooms, and anti-harassment policies that do not specifically name gender and sexuality (Toomey, McGuire, & Russell, 2012.)”-Dr. Heather P. Abrahamson

Gender restrictive bathrooms and locker rooms. That’s not heteronormative. It’s normalcy. But DOCTOR Abrahamson’s opinion is otherwise. Keeping the boys who dress as girls away from the girls’ locker room is “othering”, “detrimental”, “victimizing”, even. Honestly, I never realized that writing something like this is dissertation-worthy. Good to know The University of Minnesota is handing out Doctor of Philosophy degrees like candy for “I interviewed some people” dissertations.

How did we get here?

She must have been naming the villain and the “villain” happened to be a student who challenged her opinion. The student, who, actually sounded more like the teacher in this case than the teacher herself.

If anything, there is still some hope for our kids. Glad this young man stood his ground and was mature enough to tackle a debate. And kudos to the student who provided the video. Keeping educators in the classroom accountable for teaching and not imposing their political agendas on our students is long overdue. We need more videos. Keep them coming.

My younger brothers 1st grade teacher sent a nasty letter home addressed to my mother concerning his attentiveness in class(1964),at the time he had drain tubes in both ears.
He was a premie and my parents were very protective of him having lost a child at birth before he and I came along.
When my brother told that teacher had went to his desk and screamed at him on several occasions with her two sons in tow we went to school to visit Ms.Johnson.
Teacher Johnson raised her voice at my mother and was immediately bitch slapped and pinned to the chalk board.
The school superintendent apologized to my mother for the teachers behavior.
