Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey was all smiles Monday as she signed a bill stripping away the state’s existing guardrails on abortions after 24 weeks. The room applauded. Women standing behind her smiled and cheered. Healey declared that she was “standing with women” and insisted the change was about protecting families facing devastating medical complications late in pregnancy. It sounds compassionate right up until you discover Massachusetts already had exceptions for those very circumstances. And that’s where this story goes from troubling to downright ghoulish.
