Senator Robert Menendez is on trial in federal court on corruption charges. But since Menendez is a Democrat, there has been absolute silence from most of the media. Imagine if this were a sitting Republican senator. They wouldn’t be so quiet, would they?
The jury has been finalized and the trial is set to begin next month.
Menendez and a wealthy campaign donor are charged with a bribery scheme involving gifts and donations in return for political influence. The donor, Florida eye doctor Salomon Melgen, is on trial with Menendez.
Both defendants attended the two days of jury selection but did not speak to reporters.
This trial is getting some attention in predictable places…
… and zero attention anywhere else. A quick search on CNN’s website turned up nothing. The New York Times buried the story on page A17, and the web-based story lists it as “N.Y./REGION,” marking it as local, not national, news.
It would be silly to ask why this is happening, because it’s obvious why. The media would prefer to not draw attention to this trial unless it absolutely has to. And they will have to if Menendez is convicted, and the person they have to thank for that? Harry Reid, please come on down!!!
Media already blowing smoke to help convicted felon Democrat stay in Senate until GOP governor is gone.

Are they really going to pretend this never happened?https://t.co/GVpUyUEbCa

You see, when Senator Ted Stevens was convicted in 2008 on highly questionable corruption charges, Reid announced “the reality is that a convicted felon is not going to be able to serve in the United States Senate.”
Harry Reid truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
If Menendez is convicted and forced to resign before Chris Christie leaves office in January 2018, and a Democrat is the new incoming governor, THEN you can bet the media will start covering this story. Until then, they are hoping that they can just keep ignoring it.
