On Christmas weekend United Airlines and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (Bless.Her.Heart. -TX) landed themselves in hot water with a first class passenger.
Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) in seat 1A the one I paid for dearly, and the one United gave to her without my consent or knowledge! Fellow congressman on same flight said she does it repeatedly. @united pic.twitter.com/Q2c6u6B0Yp

Rep. SheilaJacksonLee (D-TX) took my United 1A seat Houston-DC on 12/18/17.I was at Gate E IAH w/ 1st class boarding pass, early; she had United wipe my seat and entire reservation from system.Congressman on plane said he's seen her do it 2x before. Shame on you! @JacksonLeeTX18

Needless to say, the story didn’t end with an apology from United even though several media outlets reported otherwise.
United has NOT apologized to me. On Dec. 23, a low level employee at call center said he was sorry on phone. Voucher I received was United's idea of compensation for cancelling my flight and given it to Ms. Jackson Lee. Please correct your story. @sfchronicle @united @AP

Nor did Sheila Jackson Lee apologize. NOPE. Instead she pulled the race card…
“Since this was not any fault of mine, the way the individual continued to act appeared to be, upon reflection, because I was an African American woman, seemingly an easy target along with the African American flight attendant who was very, very nice,” Jackson Lee said in the statement. “This saddens me, especially at this time of year given all of the things we have to work on to help people. But in the spirit of this season and out of the sincerity of my heart, if it is perceived that I had anything to do with this, I am kind enough to simply say sorry.”
Awww…she’s sad! But not sad enough to cry RACISM! a second time.
I noted that this individual came toward me and took a picture. I heard later that she might have said “I know who she is.” Since this was not any fault of mine, the way the individual continued to act appeared to be, upon reflection, because I was an African American woman,

if it is perceived that I had anything to do with this, I am kind enough to simply say sorry. I understand the airline is working to address the passenger’s concerns. I am glad of that. But as an African American, I know there are too many examples like this all over the nation

Oh. Ok. So, it’s fine for you to continue your decades long practice of demanding freebies from the airlines, acting like a twitterpated dimwit during Rod Rosenstein’s testimony, and berating your staff so much that your attrition rate is the worst in Congress. But it’s not ok for a passenger, Jean-Marie Simon specifically, to be upset when you yank her paid for seat away from her?
Can we say HYPOCRITE??!! Why yes, yes we can.
Needless to say, Sheila Jackson Lee may want to very and I mean VERY quickly rethink her ‘… but RACISM!!’ stance.
The woman Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee accused of racism is a celebrated photojournalist who helped document human-rights abuses in war-torn Guatemala during the 1980s.
Jean-Marie Simon, whose first-class seat on a United Airlines flight was given to Ms. Jackson Lee, Texas Democrat, lived and worked in Guatemala during the turbulent decade that saw the military seize control of the government in a coup. Hundreds of thousands of Guatemalans were killed or “disappeared” during the conflict.
Now a teacher, Ms. Simon, 63, is the author of “Guatemala: Eternal Spring Eternal Tyranny.” A 2012 blog post on Amnesty International saidMs. Simon donated 1,000 copies of her book to schools and universities in Guatemala “to keep the truth of what happened alive.”
Holy smokes Batman! Talk about having your narrative turn around and smack you right on the kisser!!
Jean-Marie Simon is definitely not some ordinary peon who DARED to diss a highly regarded (in her own mind) Congress Critter. Instead, Simon is not only a highly regarded attorney and teacher, she’s had quite the career as a human rights activist!
Another link to some of her story on her work in Guatemala is here.
After reading about Simon's work in human rights in Guatemala are you still gonna call her a racist?

Given how Sheila Jackson Lee operates, I wouldn’t bet on her changing her stance. She’ll likely keep digging. Lee would rather point fingers at everyone else instead of accepting blame for her own actions. Then again, she’s learned from the best.
Jean-Marie Simon is a highly regarded Human Rights activist, attorney, and teacher. Sheila Jackson Lee is a Congressional blowhard. Want to know who will win this particular cage match? My bet is on Jean-Marie Simon.
I am simply coming to hate these people.
And the Civil War scenarios I see discussed on different sites are starting to look more and more plausible.
Entitlement.
As a former student of Ms. Simon’s, I can personally attest that she is not only a great teacher but a great person. I fully believe that Rep. Jackson Lee was at fault. Also, not mentioned above, is the rest of Ms. Simon’s background. Not only was she a celebrated photojournalist, one considered a foremost authority on Guatemalan civil rights, but she was a Harvard-educated lawyer who gave up an extraordinarily high-paying job because she believed in the importance of education and to spend more time with her daughter. Ms. Simon should take Ms. Jackson Lee’s seat in Congress. She’d probably do a much better job.
[…] quite a long time before I could gather my jaw up off the floor. As we’ve written on many an occasion, Sheila Jackson Lee is an incompetent loon and we have NO idea how she keeps getting […]
