You might be thinking that this is an April Fools’ joke by Salon. Need I remind you that this is Salon we’re talking about?

Chauncey DeVega, a “senior politics writer” for Salon, is a devoted Joe Biden apologist. But Biden has disappointed him. Just guess why.

Is Joe Biden perfect? Of course not. Is Biden the “progressive” leader that so many members of the Democratic Party’s base and others wanted? No — and he never was going to be. As a person gets older, they become more their true authentic self. Biden is a man of “the system.” He will not abandon it.”

My hope is that Biden can find moments when he surprises himself, and the American people, by being more progressive, more of a change-maker, than he thought he could be. He will have to be pushed to become such a leader. It is not a natural role for him.”

Yes, that is clearly what is wrong with the country right now. Joe Biden is not progressive ENOUGH, and so the left will have to PUSH him into being an even more extreme leftist. You can see why I was looking for the next line to say “April Fools!”

But no, DeVega keeps going – because this is Salon.

But my admiration for Biden is colored with mixed emotions, including great sadness. He presents so many frustrating moments when he comes close to being the leader that American democracy needs in this moment of multiple crises. But he cannot or does not take the next step. Some of this is outside his control, such as the Republican opposition, evidently intent on destroying democracy and obstructing his agenda.”

But I sometimes still see a president who could be a great champion. Biden’s visit to Poland last week was one such moment. In his Warsaw speech, he stood up to Vladimir Putin, condemned the war in Ukraine, and offered continued support for the Ukrainian people and their struggle against the Russian invaders.”

Oh dear God. DeVega apparently belongs to the crowd that drank the Kool-Aid and believes that THIS was a brilliant line.

You know, the line that the White House immediately had to walk back, and then Biden himself had to stand at a podium with A CUE CARD to clean up after the big poopy he left all over the international stage in Warsaw. THIS is the “great champion” that Salon is begging to be even more progressive.

And it wouldn’t be a Salon whinefest article without bringing up the BAD ORANGE MAN!

Does Salon do fact-checking? Do monkeys fly? Does Chauncey DeVega wait for confirmation before publishing claims that CNN then debunks?

There are no missing pages and the seven-hour gap is likely explained by use of White House landlines, White House cell phones and personal cell phones that do not go through the switchboard.”

Oh dear, looks like Salon bought into a conspiracy theory that has now crapped the bed. Kind of like the president that DeVega is pleading with to SAVE THE COUNTRY WITH MAGICAL PROGRESSIVISM!

When I think of Joe Biden, that man who could be champion, and the feelings of frustration mixed with sadness I so often experience while observing his presidency, I imagine him as Major Tom in Bowie’s song “Space Oddity.” The president and the song are not a perfect fit, to be sure. But art does not work that way: These are questions of impressions, emotions and pathos.”

OH COME ON, WHERE IS THE “APRIL FOOLS”???

This is Salon. Despite this piece of wishcasting rot being published today, they actually believe every single word of it. IF ONLY Joe Biden was more progressive! IF ONLY he would stand up to those EVIL Republicans! IF ONLY Merrick Garland would arrest Donald Trump!

Perhaps Salon needs to listen to… MSNBC.

November is shaping up to be brutal for Democrats, but “there are none so blind as those who will not see.” And somehow, I don’t think Salon is going to get the message. Make plans to have popcorn on hand in seven months, everyone.
