Roger Ailes Talks to Trump: Has The Storm Finally Blown Over?

The Trump vs. Megyn Kelly debacle feels like it has been dragging on for months, when in actuality it has been less than a week. If you’re like me, you really just want it to end at this point since it’s distracting us from pertinent news. Don’t get me wrong, news concerning candidates is important, but this particular snafu has been dragged on long enough. In addition, I have a feeling that we have merely scratched the surface of the circus yet to come in the GOP race, and things have clearly gotten out of hand.

Over 37,000 people have signed a petition to have Megyn Kelly banned from future Fox News GOP debates.

On Monday, CNN reported that Fox News has increased security at their New York headquarters following the debate because of the large amount of viciousness directed at Kelly online.

I think this is the first time we’ve seen the need for increased security after a journalist asked a difficult question to a candidate. Candy Crowley flat-out lied while moderating a debate, yet I don’t think she faced this same level of vitriol. Kelly has refused to apologize, and has instead insisted that she was simply being a decent journalist.

Her response can be seen below:

In her defense, we’re not handing over the keys to the Buick, we’re handing over nuclear launch codes. Difficult questions are not only appropriate, but necessary. However, Trump felt that he was treated unfairly during Thursday’s debate, and he – as well as his faithful following – continued to attack Fox News and Megyn Kelly. Even Media Matters compiled a list of conservatives that felt Trump had been treated unfairly by the network; we expect nothing less from those who thrive on seeing conservatives divided.

Conservative media figures are attacking Fox News and Megyn Kelly to defend Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, claiming the network and Kelly were “out to get” Trump in Fox News’ first Republican primary debate.

That said, even without apologies from either side, it looks as though things may finally be calming down.

Fox News Chief, Roger Ailes, released a statement yesterday concerning the feud. Apparently Ailes and Trump had a conversation, and in said conversation Ailes assured Trump that Fox would be fair, but also reiterated that Megyn Kelly has his support. We don’t know exactly what was said, but apparently it worked.

“Donald Trump and I spoke today,” Ailes said in a statement. “We discussed our concerns, and I again expressed my confidence in Megyn Kelly. She is a brilliant journalist and I support her 100 percent. I assured him that we will continue to cover this campaign with fairness and balance. We had a blunt but cordial conversation and the air has been cleared.”

It looks to me like this particular storm has blown over. For now. I mean, give it like 5-10 minutes, because that could change. Now if everyone online can just calm down, we might be able to get back to a few more important issues, e.g., Planned Parenthood, Hillary’s criminal acts, ISIS, or various other issues that should trump (pardon the pun) Trump at this point.

Bashing The Destroyers should be the GOP’s top priority. And there is plenty to bash there. Any internal squabbling needs to be kept behind closed doors-this is what the GOP’s opponents always do. When will this party EVER learn?
