As was widely reported yesterday, a MOAB was dropped in Afghanistan in order to combat ISIS (Victory Girl Kim covered it, along with the Left’s reaction, here). While left-wing Twitter moaned and cried about anything and everything connected to a bomb, they seemed to miss the entire point of why the bomb was used on ISIS right now.
The point was to stop ISIS from using the same tunnels that allowed al-Qaeda to flourish in Afghanistan – which they were apparently now doing.
Pregent explained that ISIS fighters in Afghanistan were starting to use the massive tunnel complex that Al Qaeda used starting back in 2001, when U.S. forces were deployed the country.
“They used the same tunnel complex for bin Laden to escape to Pakistan,” Pregent said. “The Haqqani network, a terrorist organization out of Pakistan, uses it to bring in lethal aid. So you have these organizations like Al Qaeda, the Haqqani group, the Taliban and now ISIS using a tunnel complex to kill Americans in the past.”
He said it’s difficult to use precision strikes on such a complicated system of caves, canyons and tunnels, so a massive bomb like the MOAB is a much more effective option.

Pregent also tweeted out a picture to illustrate what it means when experts talk about a “tunnel complex.”

And let’s not forget that this option has been on the table for a while… and the Obama administration put it there.

The big question was if the United States going to take ISIS seriously – and we absolutely must – would we rather use bombs, or boots on the ground?

I think President Trump has answered that question.
For me, the question is not what was the point in dropping the MOAB, but instead, why did we only drop one. I would think a second big shock would make sure those tunnels collapsed.
When I see a good sized insect crawling on the kitchen counter, don’t smack it only one time.
Good analogy about the insect George V; these people are the human equivalent of insects. And damned aggravating ones to boot!
I know why the MOAB was dropped: to destroy things and kill people.
