The presumptive Democrat and Republican nominees for President gave speeches today in response to the terror attack in Orlando, Florida.
Hillary Clinton spoke in Cleveland, Ohio at the Team Wendy company plant this morning. She started off by saying that that “today is not a day for politics.”
Evidently pushing for more gun control isn’t politics I guess. The full text of her speech is here. Amid calls for national unity…
We have to stand together and be proud together. There is no better rebuke to the terrorists and all those who hate. pic.twitter.com/jnFMG6J5Ac

she vowed to figure out how to identify lone wolf jihadists, ramp up military exercises abroad to track ISIS in Libya and elsewhere, and get weapons of war off our streets.
If the FBI is watching you for suspected terrorist links, you shouldn’t be able to just go buy a gun with no questions asked.

And you shouldn’t be able to exploit loopholes and evade criminal background checks by buying online or at a gun show.
And yes, if you’re too dangerous to get on a plane, you are too dangerous to buy a gun in America.
Hillary, you might want to rethink that entire statement.
If the FBI is investigating you for federal crimes, you shouldn't be able to just run for president. https://t.co/6ii4gpQSN1

OUCH.
Something else to keep in mind.
FACT: "Weapons of war" have not been manufactured for civilians since 1986 passage of Firearm Owners Protection Act. https://t.co/YqSsKFz8lb

All in all, Hillary’s speech was long on generalizations, pandered to the liberals, and was short on specifics. Not only that, but while she was spouting off about more gun control, she was doing so at the headquarters of a company that counts our military and law enforcement as clients. The backlash by clients against the company has been very harsh. Does Hillary care about that? Nope, not one bit. But then again, that’s how she rolls.
One thing is for sure and for certain. Hillary has always been for gun control of any kind. Despite her assurance in today’s speech that she would support our law enforcement and provide the tools necessary to run an intelligence surge… I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you. Her track record says otherwise.
Next up, at St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH, was Donald Trump.

Right from the start, this writer was staring at the screen thinking… who is this guy and would the real Donald Trump please stand up?
42 minutes of calm, pointed discussion concerning the very real threat this country faces due to terrorism, radical islam, and more.

Trump hits at Obama hard for the last 8 years.

He goes after Hillary on multiple levels.
.@realDonaldTrump: Hillary's “in total denial & her continuing reluctance to…name the enemy broadcasts weakness across the entire world."
— Fox News (@FoxNews) June 13, 2016
He goes after her stance on gun control.
.@realDonaldTrump: @HillaryClinton “wants to take away American’s guns and then admit the very people who want to slaughter us.” #FoxNews

He takes her to task concerning the admissions process handled by the State Department and how badly its run. Trump also demanded that Hillary tell us how she plans to pay for her new immigration plan and why she believes that we can increase immigration from the most dangerous countries in the world and still remain secure.
Trump does not hesitate to use the words terrorist, terrorism, and radical islam during his speech.
Radical Islam is anti-woman, anti-gay and anti-American.
I refuse to allow America to become a place where gay people, Christian people, and Jewish people, are the targets of persecution and intimidation by Radical Islamic preachers of hate and violence.
It’s not just a national security issue. It is a quality of life issue.[emphasis added]
His speech, in comparison to Hillary’s, was more specific regarding actions he’d take.

Trump spoke of forming a partnership with the Muslim communities, and will put an immigration policy in place that promotes American values. Trump gives the LGBT community some food for thought regarding Hillary.
Hillary Clinton can never claim to be a friend of the gay community as long as she continues to support immigration policies that bring Islamic extremists to our country who suppress women, gays and anyone who doesn’t share their views.
She can’t have it both ways. She can’t claim to be supportive of these communities while trying to increase the number of people coming in who want to oppress them.
Something else to think about.
Hillary’s speech was voice of bipartisan political traditions since end of Cold War. Trump’s was a total repudiation of that tradition.

Point well made. Two very different speeches by two very different candidates regarding one of the worst terror attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11.
Exit question: Is this the Trump who is here to stay, or is this the one who gives a serious speech and then gives way to the showman?
If the FBI is watching you for suspected terrorist links, you shouldn’t be able to just go buy a gun with no questions asked.
I preferred the response that said anyone under investigation by the FBI shouldn’t be allowed to have armed bodyguards.
HRC is an idiot. And a leftist. (Though much more of a power-hungry Machiavellian than a true ideologue.) But I still don’t think Trump will save America.
Excellent description of Hillary!!
Not sure he can either.
“HRC is an idiot. And a leftist.”
GWB there ya go being redundant 😉
“shouldn’t be able to just go buy a gun with no questions asked”
What about that form we fill out? Seem to recall a BUNCH of questions asked.
But then, Hillary’s likely never even SEEN the form so she wouldn’t have a clue. 😉
[…] watched Donald Trump’s speech on Monday with a mixture of confusion and surprise. Who was this person speaking in Trump’s voice with Trump’s face? In light of the Orlando shootings, this man […]
