Obama Administration Claims ISIS Is Losing Ground [VIDEO]

Lest we get too distracted with political chicanery and bathroom issues, the Obama Administration sent out its diplomatic envoy on Sunday to declare that ISIS, or Islamic State, is “shrinking.”

Islamic State “is shrinking so they are very much on the defensive,” Brett McGurk, U.S. President Barack Obama’s special envoy in the fight against Islamic State, told a news conference in Amman.

Islamic State controls the cities of Mosul in Iraq and Raqqa in Syria and is proving a potent threat abroad, claiming credit for major attacks in Paris in November and Brussels in March.

McGurk said that U.S.-led coalition effort to capture Mosul and Raqqa was making progress.

“We are doing precision strikes in Mosul almost every day,” he added. “There is constant synchronized pressure,” he said.

And not only has there been success on the ground, McGurk says, but there has been a pushback on the Internet as well.

He described a round-the-clock anti-IS propaganda campaign involving companies such as Facebook and YouTube and the governments of Jordan, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.

“For every pro-Daesh Twitter handle, there are now six calling out its lies and countering its message,” McGurk said, referring to IS by its Arabic acronym.

And while this coalition supposedly contains 66 member countries focused on getting rid of ISIS, McGurk had special praise for one country in particular.

In his news conference, McGurk singled out Jordan as an example of what he called Washington’s “sustainable strategy” of eschewing boots on the ground for local, regional and Islamic forces against IS.

He said Jordan has been conducting weekly air strikes against IS targets and is involved in intelligence gathering and anti-IS propaganda.

Considering Jordan’s response to ISIS last year when one of their pilots was murdered, the praise that Jordan is receiving for taking the fight to the enemy is both encouraging and well-deserved.

Ironically, Barack Obama, the Nobel Peace Prize recipient, will bear historical responsibility for the rise of ISIS. It remains to be seen if he will get any credit for their containment and downfall, which will certainly not happen within his last eight months as president. One positive report from one diplomat is a good thing, but it is hardly enough. Not while Syrian Christians are being driven out and murdered by ISIS. Not while ISIS militants are causing chaos and destruction in Iraq. Not while children are being used by ISIS to commit executions. Islamic State might be under siege, and they might be losing ground, but they are still far from defeated.

I believe ISIS is “on the run” about as much as I believed the 2012 propaganda, “Al Qaeda is on the run” and a video caused Benghazi. It’s an election year. Gotta look tough and competent for Queen Hillary’s benefit.
