We don’t want to take your guns away, they said. Just those awful “assault rifles,” they said. Everything else will be fine, they said.

Yeah, right. Ask the gun owners in Deerfield, Illinois, about that.

On Monday, the Village Board of Trustees of Deerfield, a northern Chicago suburb, voted unanimously to ban “assault weapons,” and those who own them have until June 13 to get rid of them. Otherwise they’ll face a penalty of — get this — between $250 to $1000 per day. That is, says village attorney Matthew Rose, until there is “compliance.”

Yes, the beatings will continue until morale improves.

Furthermore, this new ban is also a continuation of a previous 2013 ordinance that regulated storage of those sort of guns.

Oh, but there’s no slippery slope here at all, right?

And it’s not just those eeevill AR-15 rifles — some handguns are going to be banned as well.

Deerfield resident Larry Nordal, opposing this gun ban, spoke out at the village meeting:

“The ordinance to store firearms was only passed for one reason. That was to have an amendatory vehicle that could be used in the future for just this purpose so you could banish assorted firearms in the future. First it’s going to be assault rifles. (There will be) new bans in the future. It’s just a matter of time.”

But Nordal’s opinion fell flat. Deerfield’s mayor, Harriet Rosenthal, said, “Enough is enough. . . There is no place here for assault weapons.”

Every “village” needs its idiot, I guess.

And, of course, the children spoke out, too. Because now we must listen to their wisdom, apparently.

A Deerfield high school senior wants even more action against guns, not only locally, but at the national level too:

“This is our generation’s fight. We’re going to keep fighting and this is part of it. Change happens gradually step by step. The fight does not end at the borders of our village.”

Well, she’s partly right. Brainwashing does happen gradually.

So why does the little “village” of Deerfield need this assault weapons ban? Is it a poverty-ridden community with out-of-control gun crime?

Let’s look at the stats, shall we?

Deerfield is wealthy, like having some of the most expensive homes in the nation. The median home value is nearly $564,000. Moreover, the median household income in Deerfield is nearly $144,000, more than twice that of the national income of a little over $55,000. Furthermore, over 91% of the residents are white, with over 95% of residents employed in white collar jobs.

On top of that, Deerfield is also a “village of artists,” with more residents working in media than 90% of the U.S.

As for crime rates: Deerfield is safer than 82% of U.S. communities of all sizes.

So what’s their problem, aside from a self-obsessed need to virtue-signal?

Well, politically speaking, I bet you can figure out how Deerfield leans. That’s right: its House member in the Illinois General Assembly is Democrat Scott Drury. The state Senator is Julie Morrison, who is — you guessed it — another Democrat.

Well, that says a lot, doesn’t it? Deerfield doesn’t have a crime problem, or a race problem. It has a Limousine Liberal problem, which means that the village chiefs are infected with moral superiority. They know what’s best for everyone. Even if it means taking away some of the rights of those who have committed no crimes.

Well Deerfield does have a gun problem. It seems that some 99% of the guns have been lost, stolen, or gifted to family members out of state. That village is a veritable firearm black hole, I tell ya.

There are just two problems the Village Board of Trustees of Deerfield will have to overcome when they get sued….the conservative SCOTUS and the 2nd Amendment, if they get that far, since the Trustees will be fortunate if some triggered villagers don’t go postal at the next Board meeting. Thank you, Founding Fathers, for giving us the 2nd Amendment, to keep the 3 branches of government in check.

Well, i’m completely against such unconstitutional infringements on the Right to Keep and Bear arms, but that being said, you get the govt. you deserve, and especially at such a local level, this village board was elected by the idiots that live there, so F*CK em… this is what happens when you elects Dims, maybe now that lesson will be driven home … and if not, being as it’s not too far from Shitcago, i’m sure the goblins that live there appreciate having such an affluent, nearby target disarmed…

A couple of adages can applied to backward thinking. First there’s “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” And then there’s the “First they came for” analogy. There’s also the fact that the local government is attempting to circumvent the intent of our Constitution to limit what government can do. Hopefully the residents of Deerfield, regardless of political affiliation, will recognize that allowing this governmental overreach is a very slippery slope and not stopping them will only encourage more encroachment into their civil rights.

Well, that’s the biggest one, other than their reason-blind adherence to progressivism.

If this weren’t Illinois, my response would be to flaunt my “assault weapons”, not hide them. I would DARE them to come and take them away or fine me. Because I wouldn’t mind owning some Rolexes, Lexuses (Lexi?), and some big houses.
(And if I were a cop in Deerfield, I would make it known unequivocally that I would never in any way enforce any portion of that law, in any fashion.)

The problem Deerfield really has? A TOTALITARIAN problem.

    I hate Illinois nazis.

  • Wayne says:

Funny how anyone you don’t agree with is brainwashed.

    • Scott says:

Well, when they advocate an all powerful government, destroying the constitutional rights of it’s citizens, the only thing besides “brainwashed” that could cover it would be “brain damaged”… of course, if one or both of those apply to you, that might explain your question…

  • Obama's boyfriend says:

I guess this town believes the 2nd, 4th and 5th amendments are mere suggestions. Can’t wait to see the town council get sued personally.

  • Byron says:

Bet they never considered the backlash from pro gun business like Caterpillar CEO who is now looking to move HQ out of Deerfield to Mansfield Oh. Realty friend is all excited about this one and so am I. #noncompliance

  • Steve says:

Deerfield is also still trying to get over its collective guilt from circa 1960-61, when it became a national laughing stock for banning black housing. Check it out. While that episode is complex, the liberal guilt still felt is simple.
