On New Year’s Eve, Russian television showed a celebration of the event featuring well-dressed men and women enjoying a cabaret style show. At the same time, Russia was sending missiles and drones into Ukraine. As much as our government tries to gaslight us, the level in Russia is exponential. That anyone believes the entertainment was entertaining or that the “guests” were enjoying it is Twilight Zone 1984.
Speaking of “1984”, 38 years ago, Wendy’s had a Hall of Fame commercial about the freshness of their hamburgers featuring a Soviet “Russian” fashion show. The commercial holds up today and is still spot on about the “audience” at totalitarian shows. Julia Davis, founder of Russian Media Monitor, watches Russian television so that we don’t have to. She posted Russian television entertainment from New Year’s Eve on Twitter. Prepare to be stunned.
During Russia's New Year special on state TV, they openly addressed the West to say, "Like it or not, Russia is enlarging!" The rest of the clip should give you a general idea as to the mood in the studio. pic.twitter.com/EcBxhEabS0

Russian television technology doesn’t appear to have progressed since the early 1970’s. There is a green screen effect to the whole program and it’s utterly corny. The people look like they either are holding guns or have guns held to their heads. Clap and smile as if your life depended on it. It does. The wax-works emcee guy saying Russia “is enlarging” is bizarre. It might be a bad translation, but that makes it sound as if Russia is an amoeba and has no agency in its enlargement, like it didn’t invade Ukraine.
But wait, there is more and it is way worse. I disagree with Miss Davis. This thing looks more like a drag queen than a madame, I imagine. The tarting up of the Ukrainian song is truly disgusting:
During a New Year's special on Russian state TV, they had the audacity to appropriate a Ukrainian song, "Chervona Ruta." The singer performing it was dressed as some kind of a madam. Backup dancers, unsuccessfully pretending to dance like Ukrainians, were grotesquely ridiculous. pic.twitter.com/0SK1PvUmYz

The State says you should clap until we tell you to stop. What a wax-works. The prisoners in Siberia got a break for New Year’s Eve. The composer of Chervona Ruta was found hanged from a tree in 1979, his name was Volodymyr Ivasiuk. Here is the correct way to sing the song when you are not trying to insult a people.
Here is how real people do this song. The great Svyatoslav Vakarchuk of Okean Elzy sings it with residents of ruined Izyum. pic.twitter.com/9VwFpJ4xkz

On New Year’s Eve, while Russia was pretending to entertain the Russian people, it was pounding Ukraine. From the New York Post, “Russians fire drone stamped with ‘Happy New Year’ at Kyiv”:
Russia attacked Ukraine with a drone stamped with a sick taunt of “Happy New Year!!!” — while reportedly losing dozens if not hundreds of its own troops in an attack on dormitory housing during the ongoing invasion.
Kyiv police chief Andrey Nebytov shared images of debris from the downed “kamikaze” drone covered in messages in ink, including drawings of fireworks and a gift.
The largest part was the message “с Новым Годом!!!” — Russian for “Happy New Year” — as well as “бум,” or “Boom.”
Nebytov said the “cheap and tasteless” message was found on the Iranian-made Shahed drone in “a playground where children play.”
“This is all you need to know about the terrorist state and its army,” he wrote.
And the Ukrainians killed at least 63 Russian soldiers. That’s why they call it “war”, folks:
The poor Russian people. No wonder they drink. They have no hope. At least the Ukrainian people have hope.
